I think the 2 in 2023 were purple runway. Good info, FlyGuy.

Those poor saps hired in late 2021 through 2022. The seniority they’d have right now at any of the big 3. Especially American or United. Winners and losers in all aspects of life, and those sorry SOB’s are massive losers for picking FedEx. Life time L. It won’t get any easier either. All night flying for infinity until they retire 🤢🤢🤮🤮.

I don’t feel bad though. I know a few suckers who chose FedEx in 2022 to chase their massive egos. Living in a legacy hub and you chose to commute for life to haul boxes pulling all nighters? WTF?? Big time L.

I also don’t expect to receive much clap back from
this post until later this evening when you all rise from the dead to work the graveyard shift.

How could anyone have known? People chose what they thought was the correct choice with the information they had at the time. What about the guy who picked United over FedEx from 1997-2000… or the person who chose TWA over UPS in 1990. You could literally use this exact scenario and change the year and airline. It happens. And nobody knows. How many FedEx pilots were looking at the majors in March/April of 2020 saying thank god.

Guess what you'd be flying as a narrow body CA at any of the big 3? Oh yea, red-eyes. Have many buddies who left or chose one of the big 3 and we're awake at the same time.

The proportion of night flying isn’t even close. That was an egregious false equivalency. Even at 99% NB seniority, redeyes are the exception, not the norm. FedEx guys seem to think that there’s redeyes galore at the pax carriers, even so much to say that being junior is basically like being at FedEx. Nothing is further from the truth.

Redeyes are also (subjectively) easier than waking up at 1am in a sleep room for the AM sort. Especially, if on the second half of a hub turn. Go on Expedia and tell me how many pax flights you see scheduled to depart at 3am? As a % of total flights?

You must not be based on the west coast. But yeah my buddies are liars over on that coast I guess.

Rather be awoken at 3 am doing my one leg, than a 0430 van in the greats and grands doing multiple legs that same day. But again, to each their own.

You guys recovered yet from your week long meltdown yet? Thanks for the extra pay btw.

Massive losers for picking FexEx? Lol...Still a fairly nice career to make big bucks in, I'd hardly call them "losers." One really has to come from a place of upity privelage to come to your conclusion.

Cool you got those anecdotes from your buddies. Go take a look at the actual number of redeyes flown as a percentage of their total legs. Rather than some vague comments of “so many redeyes!” Trust me I know west coast schedules.

While only 3 hours, waking up at 4am instead of 1am is a hugeeee difference. Also, waking up at 4am is not some everyday occurrence either. The previous post still stands.

edit: also pretty nice for the huge proportion of guys not based on the west coast too.

You must not know our schedules either cause I'm not waking up at 1am.
