Any reason to stay at FedEx 40s or younger?

To the first point, again how is that some justfication for TA1, which would have been the first voluntary cessation of an A plan, at least since 9/11? Is your point that that TA1 was good because the Fedex pilot group was catching up to concessionary contracts of the early 2000s?
The Legacies that did get merged that no longer exist didn't fail because of pilot pay. America West, TWA, and Northwest had decent, if not even then industry leading contracts.
If there is a lesson from the merged legacies of the 2000s, its that concessions cannot save a crippled airline.

Who did America West get bought by?

America West bought USAirways. Combined airline was based in PHX. The new USAirways merged with American. AA top management is ex AWA, for good or bad. (Mostly bad if you want to compete internationally). Worked for me, I retired as a senior 777 captain.

How many has FedEx hired since 2020 and when did hiring stop? This industry is so cyclical. I think everyone knows in 5 years FedEx pilots will have a great contract and things will
be booming again and everyone will kind of forget about this rough patch.

Don't think so. Where we just not told that we are an additional 500 pilots overstaffed? The key word is additional. So the 700 from earlier statements plus 500 just announced equates to 1200 pilots overstaffed. Either a huge buyout coming or furlough.

Diring the time since the 700-800 announcement a year ago we've lost nearly 300 to retirement or leaving greener pastures. So probably more like 900-1,000 overstaffed.

Can't recall the numbers in 2020, 21', and 22'. But they were pretty significant. The last two pilots were hired in Oct of 2023. There have been zero New Hires in 2024.

In 2.5 years nearly 500 will be retired, in 3.5 600ish. This is only mandatory retirements.
There are 806 pilots ages 60-64 on property right now. 1180 ages 58-64. There is a very easy fix to staffing staring the company directly in the face in the form of a new TA that gives the senior their desperately needed pension bump and bonus. If we are truly overstaffed this would be the easiest way to correct it. (Obviously for a TA to pass it would need much more than this, i’m just highlighting what would fix staffing)
To me this will be the obvious road the company ends up going down, as 4a2b and c will destroy flexibility for the airline, and you will still have an attrition problem.
We have only been told what flying we are loosing and very little about the new grand scheme.

Not a FedEx pilot but this announcement smells like contract negotiating in public. Your CFO is an axe man, you’re just going to need union reps that are equally ruthless and cunning.
