Any reason to stay at FedEx 40s or younger?

I actually got a CJO from United right after I started at FedEx. One of the reasons I didn’t do that instead is I was still paranoid from all the furloughs United had done in the past (one guy at my regional had been furloughed twice from there). Obviously I wish I had done that instead, but it is what it is. I never imagined FedEx would be in this current situation. Although being at 65% seniority right now, it sure would have to get bad for me to get furloughed at FedEx.

Furloughs are only beneficial if you’re doing it to a lot of people for a long time. COVID proved that with AA.
Furloughs after 9/11 were so deep because there were no retirements to soak them up. Different times. UAL retires 500+ a year thru 2033.
You’d still have a number at an airline that will have its largest base in your backyard.

5.5 years is quite a bit of time to sacrifice. I’d stay put, unless you fundamentally don’t like working at FedEx or you no longer want to commute. The situation will improve at FedEx, but I do agree that management is attempting to shape the company as a less than top-tier destination for pilots.

You must be Jr to Wrxpilot on the seniority list lol.
UAL has already hired north of 5k pilots which covers retirements for the next decade. UAL hiring at this moment is predicated on “United Next” coming to fruition, which would require around 20k-21k pilots on property. They currently have almost 17k and are actually overstaffed atm.
At any moment UAL management could decide those aircraft orders will be replacements instead of growth. At any moment they could cancel their future orders as well. Having that amount of 787’s sitting idle during an economic downturn would not look pretty on the books.
I think Wrx would be making a mistake leaving FedEx for any legacy with their current seniority %. He/she should be well protected against the possibility of furlough.

Welcome, nice 2nd post. Who will be the first 2 pilots furloughed? Does the company care in the short term or the long term?

I suggest you get out of the industry all together. If you can't handle one contract negotiation then you won't fare well at any airline. Are you going to crap your pants at every hint of furlough or concessionary contract at a legacy? Fedex pilots have turned down their first TA ever and that should be a matter of pride to the majority. We are in negotiations which is a part of doing business. UA dumped their first TA and it took a few years to get a better one, the same is going to happen here. Just because UA has the largest WB fleet, doesn't mean you'll ever see it at this point in their hiring process, let alone as a captain. Pretty certain with 5.5 yrs at FX you'll be a WB captain for a very long time. If you hate night hub turns then I get it and perhaps another life is for you but read a few of the other forums. DL management basically said they are going to interpret contract work rules to their benefit and the union can grieve it. So everything isn't roses at the legacies. Management throws out a PSA letter and guys panic, typical negotiating tactics by management.

Wrong. Management will say anything while negotiations are going on.
