Any reason to stay at FedEx 40s or younger?

I still think leaving with less than two years on property and younger than 35 was/is the right decision regardless of your seat. I'm just glad I didn't even have to weigh out that problem when I got a new CJO.
I hope the pilots at Purple the best. I read "The World on Time" when applying to FDX and was ready to chug some kool-aid. Loved the PSP, promote from within, family feel, and incentivized culture that the book spoke of. Unfortunately, that died sometime after to book was written and I started there. Even more unfortunate for myself and others hired in the 2020-2022 timeframe, the Covid gravy train and talks of "70+ new hires a month for the foreseeable future" masked the true stench of what was happening in Memphis.

Stuck here
I am totally trapped in this hole. Looks like a decent chance I could expire before age 70. I will fight for a good contract, but there is a non zero chance I will lose retirment, QOL, and compensation, and career progression. If I end up broke and elderly, too beaten down to work, lights out would be a relief.

confusing? pretty clear post…hub turns vs long haul and living in base. for someone who seems to really read between the lines and understand the fine print you missed that one.
nice try pinning it on the navy guys. it’s not any particular group when it comes to the kool aide here.
hands down, terrible culture and cultures don’t shift overnight so im willing to bet this dump has been the way it is for decades. I always ask the same question when someone says “it’s gotten worse”, what? the contract has been garbage since 2015….im willing to bet the one before that was garbage too. toxic management that chops pilots at their knees into fearing for their jobs. a union that has no backbone and is terrified to drive a campaign to push back against the company in any way. a pilot group that folds over and over in every aspect. “bar none” some of the worst flying you can do in this industry, and that just got worse since day flying will be stripped with the usps contract going away. I didn’t do long haul so I can’t speak to that, never have had interest in it so not interesting in waiting 5 years to get trained out to try a long haul fleet. bases in cities no one wants to live in (unless you enjoy bragging about having the biggest house in Eads, TN).
seriously, what’s to write home about this place even prior to negotiations? the icing on the cake was the sell job the pilots do to get others here. it’s like they’re trying to convince themselves it’s the place to be. if you even spoke about leaving you got looked at like you had 5 heads. “how are you gonna explain that you’re leaving FEDEX in an interview?? that’s gonna be tough” said one captain.
the egos and arrogance was outstanding here. one loop around AOC will tell you all you need to know.
enjoy the wonderful bank system that I was many times tried to convince was the coolest thing since rock music. whenever this place starts hiring again, those who get the interview shouldn’t need to think too hard about you’re decision,
lastly, good luck with your negotiations, while I hope it improves, the odds are against you. the company isn’t really good at negotiating, the pilot group and union are just really, really bad at it.

It sounds like you have left Fedex. I hope you are happy. Hopefully some day, you will be able to put your anger behind you. Best of luck.

Not really confusing at all. The 777 is a COMPLETELY different lifestyle and effectively a different payscale than anything else at Purple (especially after pulling the 11 out of ANC and their MEM bidback going down the toilet). I'm saying it would have been harder to walk away from a one leg commute for ULH flying. Even with the crappy pay rates compared to everyone else, the extra soft pay and a decent lifestyle would have been tougher to leave, especially after seeing 2nd year paychecks coming in.

FDX has other bases. You’ll make way more money at FedEx. They have great benefits and vacation rules and wide body flying and no passengers and less exposure to a recession. They have never laid off. It would be tough not to go there but I get not wanting to be involved with Memphis.
