How many years does it take to upgrade to captain on the 777 these days?

It depends -- how long to bid it, or how many years to actually get a training date after?

Wow, so even after you get awarded it you have to wait years just to get a training date? But yeah, how many years to bid it and then how many to get the training date?

The most junior widebody Captain has been here longer than our youngest pilots have been alive. Somebody hired today it will be decades, several of them, before they see WB CA unless AA dramatically expands their WB fleet more than what is already planned.

You could come to Omni Air International and get a direct entry Captain slot on the A321 and make 1/3rd your FO pay at FedEx, and have no work rules!

Default System bid

We'll spend a bunch of time and money negotiiating over system bids for the next TA and meanwhile taking it up the arse with the loss of postal and restructuring. Then after the fire dies down and we save the company lots of dough we'll take a hit on pay, retirement, QOL to make it slightly better, or worse if legal language track record is any indication.

Yeah, it’s insane. There are awards from December 2020 that have yet to be trained.

Is there any language that requires them to pay you at your awarded (CA) rate if they don't give training class after a period of time?
