This^. You can't pass up an upgrade you could have held two years ago, and then cry foul when you want to upgrade and bump someone junior who did upgrade. Like it or not, this is pretty standard practice across the industry. But I came from the regionals where we always take the first upgrade, 'cause you never know when the music will stop.

Maybe after the monthly bid closes we should let somebody senior take your line because they didn’t realize how good that line was. Maybe that summer vacation you got, well somebody senior wants it now. Maybe your RF2 is senior to you, not only should he take the PIC spot he didn’t bid for but he also likes your catering better than what he ordered so he will take that too. Hey. It’s all about seniority.

From reading this thread, to me it seems like the difference between this bid and the old excess bid form the old contract is that we end up with less training required. The one thing I think I would change is allowing those in same equipment and seat who are not subject to assignment to be able to bid another base (currently 767 & 777) that doesn’t have a vacancy but the max > min and if they are senior enough to hold it. That wouldn’t trigger a training event.

I've been at FedEx just over a year on the 75. I tried bidding off the 75 on this previous bid but was denied. I am not to upset because I would rather be 50% on the 75 vs 100% on the 76/77, especially if we aren't hiring. My biggest question is if we don't hire for a year or longer during this restructuring could I be stuck on the 75 for 4-5 years? 1 year already+ 1-2 years for bid allowing me to actually move+ 1-2 years to go to training. Are all the upcoming bids going to be a crap shoot like this one with the closures and not hiring? I bid the 75 so I wouldn't have a seat lock...

I was stuck in his position, not knowing how long I'd be stuck, and to boot the company was placing new hires into my awarded seat. But I don't lord it over the guy.
The company needs to do better, but they won't. So we will have to force it through negotiations. Let's make this place better. Telling eachother you had it worse solves nothing.
