No problem. What I’m meaning is that they do not charge you an entire month of sick leave on reserve if you work just one day of reserve in that month. For example, say the Jan bid month starts on Jan 2nd. And then you have two R days on Jan 3-4, and your surgery is on Jan 6th. Work the R days on Jan 3-4, then call in sick for your surgery and stay sick for the rest of the month. You will only have your sick bank charged for the trips you would have been called out for on reserve, and if they aren’t using reserve much, you might not have your bank charged at all. It is completely legal by the contract, and allows low usage of your sick bank. Feel free to ask more questions if I haven’t explained adequately.
I don't think this is true any more after the 2015 contract. Now, it is based off of the block of reserve. You must work at least one day in that block of reserve or you are charged sick for the entire block.

If you have multiple blocks of reserve, it works this way. If you are available for some of one block you are protected for that block of reserve only not any others. You would have to be available for some of the time of each block of reserve to not be charged the for the reserve. If you are unavailable for the whole block of reserve then your sick bank is charged for the entire block of reserve.

I don't think you're correct. If CRS is now interpreting the contract that way, they're doing that thing where they decide to do whatever the f they want. That is not in the contract, and it's not precedent. There is something in the contract about mini-RLG's, where you have blocks of R days mixed in with trips, but not for pure reserve lines. If they have decided to do that and have charged you incorrectly, this needs to be addressed. I just looked at the contract to make sure I wasn't missing something, and I didn't see anything about that. If you can find what you're saying in the contract, please post it. I do acknowledge that once or twice in my life, I've been wrong.

It seems like the pax carriers go through a major upset about twice a decade, every decade. Cargo has been much more stable over the long term. I think that will continue to be the case, despite the doom and gloom on all the threads.
I wish those who leave FDX for greener pastures, to find them. There are so many personal variables that go into making this job either barely average or, outstanding. As some wise pilot I had the pleasure of doing IOE with here said: may you keep your second officer wife, your first officer house, and get the captain paycheck.
Whatever it is that will make this job outstanding, whichever airline, pax or cargo, or whatever flying job that is, go for it with all your effort. You're already in a really good spot while you get to your dream job. Enjoy the ride wherever you are though. Even in a shiny new jet, the view will end up being the same. I'd say go for the gig that will allow major time off to devote to a life and interests outside of flying.
I once flew 1200hrs block per year, a few lives ago. The last many years here I have averaged about 150hrs of block time with very good pay for the year (even though now it's severely lagging), with a TON of time off, my biggest priority. For me and how the flying I do fits my life, there is no better airline gig in the world.
And hey busdriver12, congrats on a great career here!!! Cheers to you and to your copilot!

It's so easy to forget the bad times when in good times.
