No problem. What I’m meaning is that they do not charge you an entire month of sick leave on reserve if you work just one day of reserve in that month. For example, say the Jan bid month starts on Jan 2nd. And then you have two R days on Jan 3-4, and your surgery is on Jan 6th. Work the R days on Jan 3-4, then call in sick for your surgery and stay sick for the rest of the month. You will only have your sick bank charged for the trips you would have been called out for on reserve, and if they aren’t using reserve much, you might not have your bank charged at all. It is completely legal by the contract, and allows low usage of your sick bank. Feel free to ask more questions if I haven’t explained adequately.

Why would we compare our current rate to their old rate? That makes absolutely no sense. When comparing both current rates, it shows the amount of lag in ours. That’s the whole point in pattern bargaining. You compare current rates and pattern against the better one. It seems like you’re taking it personal that our current rates are so crappy compared to newer contracts. Don’t, it doesn’t diminish you. It just points to everyone how much we need to improve so that we don’t fall for lower expectations.

Pay rates are important, however they are not the only number in a W2 calculation. Many state they will not fall into the pay rate myopia, but here we are once again. We just can’t help ourselves.
I guess retirement, work rules, vacation, line bidding aren’t money related. Quality of life issues are way down on the list to many it appears…..
I don’t want any part of the related sections in other airlines contracts. Do we want to trade those sections away for pay rates like the other airlines have over the years? Alaska just passed PBS. Yehhhhh

Not directed at you busdriver but general comment on the topic.

Why would we have to trade? How about just make what we have better? The idea that we must give away something in other to get another needs to go away now.

Sure. I passed on thousands of hours of makeup bank to other pilots, and so did my spouse. In our case, we dropped large numbers of trips over the years because we had kids at home, so we built up huge banks. People who take mil leave often will also end up with huge makeup banks, more than they could ever need. And when you upgrade, you take this bank with you. The way that you can pass that bank to other people is to give them trips that you don't want. Then they can fly them, or drop them, and the hours go into their makeup bank. If someone is really helpful, they can pick up a bunch of crap trips in open time in that they don't want, give them to you on a one way trip pickup and then you can drop them, trade them, whatever, they're yours. This was very helpful during 4A2B, as you could pass hours from your makeup bank to others so they could work a decent schedule. Maybe it doesn't seem fair, but it made it so the reserves were underutilized (which I'm sure the Memphis folk appreciated) and people could earn a decent paycheck. I never minded helping people, the system works better when we help each other, win/win.
