Fedex has very few Pratt MDs, vast majority are GE, so they don’t have as big as an issue as UPS which has more Pratts than GE. Pratt engines require very expensive overhauls as opposed to GE, by the end of 2023 if I understand correctly.

Believe its fallout from the United 777 engine failure in Denver. Don’t have any details but it’s a grounding issue at some point.

Yes, they are paid for. But that doesn't change the fact of $13m per engine cost fix. No one is going to drop $40m into an old aging 5m airframe. Plus, no tax benefit anymore. New build lets the company straight line depreceiate against earnings. Huge Tax benefits with replacing. The rumor of a cheaper fix, is just rumor. And I doubt the FAA would be onboard.

According to a higher up maintenance guy at Brown, it’s a specific section of the engine that’s timing out. Up until recently there was a single company that was doing the applicable replacement part(s?), primarily for the military, but worked with MD operators as well which kept costs down. Current special order place raping the few customers needing to pay (ie 5X), but as posted, a much cheaper option may soon be available.

Its a time on engine vs Calendar date limitation. Guy said most engines will become due in a somewhat narrow window but not all at the same time.

Not sure you understand what I meant when I said they paid for 5. That means the dropped the ~40 million for 5 Pratts already. So they are very willing to do it if necessary, as they already have. Market forces may push them in a different direction, but the cost probably doesn’t bother them as much as we’d think.

Most junior A300 captain on the list at FDX currently flying the line was hired in the Fall of 2019.
Most junior 757 captain - Winter of 2021
Most junior MEM MD captain - Spring of '19
MEM 76 - Winter of '19

MEM77 plug is a 5 million seniority number....I believe that is around 5ish years on property...someone correct me if I'm wrong.
