In fact, I saw just today, Allegiant is now advertising for Aussies that can hold E3 visas to fill their seats! I've always been told, if FedEx ever were to "F" (don't want to say it!) the rest of the industry would already be upside down.
Two completely different industries with different feast/famine cycles. Loosely connected by the economy.

They (Legacies) “early out” retired about 2,000 each to accommodate COVID and are now trying to replace them to get back to Pre Pandemic levels. We ballooned up in size to meet the Pandemic demand and are now going to need to right size for the return to normalcy.

Take a look at the ITU bid that opened today - no training for the MD11 or the A300, also no MEM77 FO slots. At this rate it will take years to clear the current training letter.

With that training ITU bid my guess is new hire training is also going to go full stop.

Could you clarify what an ITU bid is? As someone swimming in the pool I’m trying to understand exactly you’re saying here.

ITU is our in house name for aircraft specific training. All new-hires go through ITU after completing Basic Indoc (BI).

Anyone changing fleets or upgrading/downgrading has to go through ITU again (except 757 FO to 767 FO and 757 CA to 767 CA are differences programs).

Looks like there actually are a lot of 777FO slots for Jan/Feb but they are all going to folks from the 20-02 bid which is why no normal ITU spots were open this month. Airbus only has like 8 more upgrades before the last bid is trained out but the 757 has like 85 so that one may take a while if they don’t start back up in March.

777CA list is quite long but looks like a normal number of slots (10) open for Feb.

My guess is we see an excess bid, or whatever it's called now, in January or February.

Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t the passenger airline sector lag the cargo sector? Cargo sees the downturn first, then passenger. And on the upswing, cargo airlines sees an increase before passenger airlines?

I think cargo airlines are a leading indicator of the economy. And passenger airlines are a lagging are indicator.

I stand corrected - I did not realize they changed the way pilots for the old bid were awarded training, they used to appear at the top of the list for eligible pilots. So yes there is MEM77 FO training taking place. I will not digress on how unsatisfactory this is.

Still no MD11 or A300 training taking place though.

And I am pretty sure the class size of 77 and 76 is less than max capacity.
