Exactly. This is what the questions are for, while they seem insignificant, they are seeing how you react to a possibly uncomfortable question.

I mean, come on. Sure, my grades in college were bad but I'm not stupid. I'm not going to give an answer that would imply that my collegiate performance as a teenager is representative of my current work ethic and level of maturity.

I was commenting on the attitude you demonstrated in your response. Your response that FedEx would be at a huge loss by not hiring you is not rooted in reality. I am giving you this feedback to help you. Own it. Explain why you didn’t take it as seriously as you should have. Explain that as you look back on it, that you learned throughout your professional career that the effort you put into college wasnt going to hack it in your career. Maybe say that you arent proud of the GPA, but proud of how you realized your failings of the past and provide examples of how you have made changes as a result of a less than stellar performance.

in short, having some humility regarding past failings is going to go much further than “C’MON Man, you can’t hold my work ethic from my 20’s against me because it would be a devastating loss to FedEx to not hire me.”

As someone who has been down this road (2.62), I hope you will take the advice. Best of luck to you.

I think (hope) you read far too much into my comment about it being their loss instead of mine if a collegiate GPA was the *only* determining factor in whether or not to hire or pass on an otherwise qualified candidate. I firmly believe that a single factor (excluding safety-related issues or repetitive deficiencies in training or professional performance) being deficient should not be disqualifying. If that is the case for FedEx regarding collegiate GPAs then they *are* missing out on otherwise qualified candidates who could be productive assets to the company (their loss). Personally, I know how much I’d stand to gain from getting to FedEx and how minimal my specific input to their operations would be by me being there. I have no doubt FedEx will continue to be perfectly fine without me, as somehow they’ve made it this far without me being there.

I appreciate your concern and advice. Thanks for the best wishes.

Also going back and reading my initial comment again, I can see how none of what I just said came across and that I looked like an a*****e so fair play to you and others for calling me out.

Good point and insight. As many folks argued this would never happen with a line of applicants around the building or at least why should it, dropping the degree requirement is inevitable regardless of any reasoning it was only a matter of time in this environment. All minimums in some fashion have dropped this past decade at every outfit at some point or another. Maybe not gone tomorrow but the future is wide open and many outfits are ramping up their contracts or will be fairly soon. “Remain in line” is a very good assessment and very telling.

I received the invite for the cog/personality test but they only gave me two dates to choose from next week, both being while I’m on a trip. Do they send the remote testing invites out each week with new dates? I already called to see if they could send new dates. Just not sure how the process works if none of the dates they send align with my off time. Thanks in advance.

Don’t delay. Seniority is everything especially when a recession is around the corner.
