You can apply for a Pro Instructor position at FedEx and get an interview after a couple of years as a Pro. If selected your time as an instructor is will certainly help during your training.

Did either of you have an endorsement from a current pilot?

Sim Instructor will likely only hurt your currency, but I'd definitely recommend LCA. Seems to be the golden ticket to anywhere in this climate. Would give you more options across the board, and then if you haven't been called and still wanted FedEx you could go there from a legacy which would help your resume even more. A friend asked FedEx recruiter at a job fair back before the world ended if they should go get heavy time or stay at their regional, and he was told to stay where he was at. (He was called for an interview a few weeks later.) Heavy time would probably help with brown, but not so much with FedEx, or any of the other legacies. They don't seem to care too much, but more so about PIC time and qualifications (LCA) in general.

some were hired with <100 hours and were sim instructors, not LCAs. I'd still go with the LCA route, check boxes as stated above. LCA will get you calls from any legacy this point.

Default LCA/Sim Inst. vs. ACMI to get to FDX

From reading the ALPA emails every couple of weeks, to me it seems like most of the new hires come from regionals, then legacies and military, and lastly ACMIs and corporate, if that makes any difference?

I am NOT at Purple or Brown BUT the above numbers seem to align with the various categories of pilots who apply, how big is each pot. Indeed the RJ pot is bigger than the corporate aviation pot, so maybe hiring represents that.
Just my thoughts

That’s a good point I didn’t think of when writing that.
