Max trip extension for domestic flying is 36 hours.
I hear this all the time, makes me cringe. Yes, FedEx has some advantages but there's a lot pitfalls too in our contract.
Scheduling:
Vacation rocks at FedEx. The best in the industry by far.
There's other pitfalls but its late and I'm fatigued.
Scheduling:
- Even as a line holder, you're always on reserve. Scheduling can do pretty much whatever they want with you.
-OPERATIONAL EMERGENCIES ... mandatory operating to the FAR limits unless you call fatigued
-SUBSTITUTION ... the most complicated recovery obligation in the airline business!!
-SUBSTITUTION ... the most complicated recovery obligation in the airline business!!
-Lost 40-50% of Reserve Lines with SLG (PBS)
-One of if not The Worst Reserve System in the Airline Business
--No true Long Call Reserve (at other airlines you can sit long call reserves at home and not in a domicile city) .. at FDX you always have to be in domicile on reserve and they'll make you come to domicile if you get the one or two R24 lines
--Leveling System and Assignment System while on Reserve is nothing but smoke and mirrors
--Reserves are Always on Short Call .. 1.5hour (half of other airlines' short calls)
--Scheduling can move one R-day from the beginning or end of a group of reserve and add it to the end of the pilot's current block of R-days
--Scheduling can't "schedule" you more than 2 hours into a day off, but the sure as hell can and will "OPERATIONALLY EXTEND" you into days off.
--Leveling for a trip you're on doesn't get updated until that trip blocks in. So, even if that trip is going to put you over the contractual Reserve Line Guarantee (RLG), screw scheduling can assign you any trips in open time that fall within the next 40 hours ... thus extending you well over your RLG.
--No Limits on the number of Short Call call outs unlike other airlines

And worse .. now they're polling jump seaters to have them operate the flight (if qualified on that jet and duty day ok), so they bump the line holding crew members and make you fly some other trip.
Total Compensation at Fedex is average compared to DL/AA/UA assuming you don't count their profit sharing. If you do count PS, Fedex is below average and well below UPS. And FedEx flies a lot of night flying and not compensated for it.Vacation rocks at FedEx. The best in the industry by far.

The idea that certain "pay codes" don't get trip guarantee and overages is what's absolutely ridiculous though. This lags even some regional airlines, where you may not have received 150% if the trip cancels, but you still got the trip guarantee at straight time.
Which is still ridiculous. that's a day and a half of your life that they can just take from you. Insane.
well said.

At previous airline pilots stopped picking up trips because they were being extended on them. Solution was that management agreed to contract change that said if you picked up a trip you couldn’t be extended. And you were pay protected to anything that was on your schedule regardless of anything.
It amazes me the lack of simple work rules like this here compared to there.

Not uncommon to not have pay protection for premium trips at major airlines FYI. Im not saying don’t attempt to get it just stating reality. Risk vs reward

I think it al depends, Ive heard of people not hearing for year. However, I put my app in around April last year and got an interview invite around mid September. I interviewed beginning of November and got CJO November 5th. Stay positive and keep your app updated. Internal letter of endorsement is what I believe triggered my interview. Good luck.

First and last time I ever picked something up at this company, it cancelled while I was on my jumpseat to base and I got $0 for my time. Not doing that nonsense again unless we get some sort of compensation greater than 1 day worth of pay for cancelled trips.

You stated that we don't get trip guarantee if we pick up a trip. I pointed out that isn't true. The contract specifies what has trip guarantee and what doesn't. If you want it changed, tell the MEC. Vote no for any contract that doesn't have that change.

The trip had to be MUS, MUV, DRF, AVA or CMU to not have trip guarantee. If it was a different code, then you should fill out a DART to get it corrected.

FEDEX FLIGHT OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT, ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION ???
Something you could easily afford to pay and most of your scheduling nightmares would go away. I, personally (yes redundant but I'm saying it for the lawyers on here) have not flown any extra because we're in contract talks. That's my uninfluenced decision.
I have failed to put in for two monthly make-up bids -- lost a lot of hours. Because of all of the revisions and extensions, I WILL NOT, I AM NOT, and I REFUSE TO FLY ANY EXTRA UNTIL WE GET LIMITATIONS ON THIS. I AM A LINEHOLDER. I AM NOT ON RESERVE. I NEED A LIFE. I MUST BE ABLE TO PLAN LIFE EVENTS. IF I CHOOSE TO FLY ON A DAY OFF AND HELP FEDEX OUT, DON'T BEND ME OVER!! My quality of life at FedEx has taken a nosedive over the past two years. Yes, at first, when we were moving vaccines and the thought of saving the world, it was understandable. Now, why am I killing myself and my quality of life, missing out on family events and social events? So Karen can get her cat supplies she bought online? My health, my family, my quality of life aren't worth it.
I don't blame you. The same thing happened to me for two trips when I lived in domicile. I wasn't happy with my situation then, I'd be furious if I were in yours and commuting!
