Leap frogged by who? Certainly not UPS. If you are talking about the CBA as a whole, Fedex is most definitely ahead of everyone. Did UPS gain some money with the extension? Yes, but it’s a minor difference. Fedex in most areas is superior (scheduling, vacation, LTD, paid medicals, to name a few), even with a 6 year old contract.

But don’t UPS pilots get to have beards?

who doesn't have paid medicals at this point?

FedEx has terrible revision language that pretty much makes everyone a reserve once they check in, and can be extended for 84 hours without consent, etc etc. Trips picked up on days off aren't pay protected if they cancel, etc.

So that's one place. Their higher compensation makes up for that in less than one trip though. Compared to a lot of legacy carriers though, we lag in contract basics.

Not true about trips picked up on days off. They can be pay protected, it depends on the pay code. DRFT, AVA, MUS, MUV etc are all pay codes that do not have trip guarantee.

Max trip extension for domestic flying is 36 hours.

Unless it is due to maintenance or weather, then the 36/84 can be exceeded without consent. But I'm sure that never happens.

I hear this all the time, makes me cringe. Yes, FedEx has some advantages but there's a lot pitfalls too in our contract.

Scheduling:
- Even as a line holder, you're always on reserve. Scheduling can do pretty much whatever they want with you.
-OPERATIONAL EMERGENCIES ... mandatory operating to the FAR limits unless you call fatigued
-SUBSTITUTION ... the most complicated recovery obligation in the airline business!!
-Lost 40-50% of Reserve Lines with SLG (PBS)
-One of if not The Worst Reserve System in the Airline Business
--No true Long Call Reserve (at other airlines you can sit long call reserves at home and not in a domicile city) .. at FDX you always have to be in domicile on reserve and they'll make you come to domicile if you get the one or two R24 lines
--Leveling System and Assignment System while on Reserve is nothing but smoke and mirrors
--Reserves are Always on Short Call .. 1.5hour (half of other airlines' short calls)
--Scheduling can move one R-day from the beginning or end of a group of reserve and add it to the end of the pilot's current block of R-days
--Scheduling can't "schedule" you more than 2 hours into a day off, but the sure as hell can and will "OPERATIONALLY EXTEND" you into days off.
--Leveling for a trip you're on doesn't get updated until that trip blocks in. So, even if that trip is going to put you over the contractual Reserve Line Guarantee (RLG), screw scheduling can assign you any trips in open time that fall within the next 40 hours ... thus extending you well over your RLG.
--No Limits on the number of Short Call call outs unlike other airlines
And worse .. now they're polling jump seaters to have them operate the flight (if qualified on that jet and duty day ok), so they bump the line holding crew members and make you fly some other trip.
Total Compensation at Fedex is average compared to DL/AA/UA assuming you don't count their profit sharing. If you do count PS, Fedex is below average and well below UPS. And FedEx flies a lot of night flying and not compensated for it.

Vacation rocks at FedEx. The best in the industry by far.

There's other pitfalls but its late and I'm fatigued.

Thanks to all who bring forward an honest assessment to what needs to be fixed and what pitfalls may lie ahead. Very informative posts. May you get the contract you are shooting for.
