There used to be regional pilots with clean records that waited 25 years. That included the lost decade. How have things changed, and are dramatically changing even more this year.

If FedEx manages to maintain the TPIC requirement and the degree requirement through 2022 I will be shocked.

Agree, it’s not the delineator it once was and with the pool shrinking (takes some time but inevitable) the other outfits are scooping up the best and those attempting the long game do not/will not have that option. There is a bottom line standard obviously, but all carriers have been decreasing requirements steadily in some fashion or another over the years. Minimums were never enough before, but the environment has opened the door to hire minimums for the foreseeable future without delay. Great opportunities out there, timing is everything and the $ drives it all whether you own the aviation company or you are employed by them as that “independent contractor.” Independent Contractor not my term by any means, just something I have read many times on these sites especially during negotiation periods. May the greener pasture you seek call you soon.

Shouldn't have to remove any requirements. Qualified people will keep coming here in droves if we have an industry leading contract.

Agreed, sadly we have an industry-trailing contract.

If Fedex has an industry trailing contract, then Delta, AA, United, etc all have real crappy ones, worst than Regionals. What an ignorant comment.

Can it get better and get out ahead even further than the nearest competitor? Of course.

Hard to fix those who refuse to deal in facts. Some post such absurd falsehoods about how we compare to the industry. Acting as if we are not top of the heap in most categories already.

As you stated we can most definitely make improvements. However moving the bar a mile is tough when the rest of the industry only moves it a few inches. UPS and FDX have done almost all the heavy lifting the past 20 years. It appears the same will be true the next 20.

Just because someone says a contract is trailing others doesn’t mean the others are crappy. Maybe they are all good but one trails the other?

It’s not that complicated, it’s pattern bargaining and it’s been a long while since we’ve had a new contract. Guess what, we’ve been leap frogged and that’s a GOOD thing.
