A couple buddies of mine and myself have apps in. Crickets. Rumor on the street is that they are redoing the process (no JKT) and that they are behind from the holidays. Based on that, we heard that Feb interviews are postponed. No data on when they will start. I am still studying for the knowledge test in case.

Just for a historical perspective, it is very normal for Ops to put out big bids going into contract talks. I think that after we've signed each contract, within 6 months hiring has stopped and in a couple cases we had displacement bids where guys slid backwards.

Excluding the 3-card Monty they play with hiring, the expansion numbers are a bit overinflated due to Covid. Things look amazing right now, but we are two years into the hugely profitable Covid shipping contracts FDX signed when the passenger belly freight dried up. Those contracts will expire in three more years so there might be some leaner times on the horizon if passenger flying ever gets back to normal. Just keep in mind that a 5 year wide body captain slot is not the historical norm. Over the years there have been more periods of stagnation than expansion. Not to say you can't have a great career but just manage the expectations.

So if they’re backed up with interviews and applications, what’s the likelihood of someone hearing something if they put in their application this month? Like how long does it look to be?

I had folks in my class that heard back in a month. Took me 6 years. Somewhere in that window is probably reasonable.

My application was in 10 years before I got the email last January...
