Hi Gang,

Considering throwing my hat in the ring. Currently junior FO at one of the "other" legacies, age 54. Would appreciate some insight...

1. LAX and OAK: Generally how senior, how long to bid into?
2. Realistic first year gross?
3. Realistic second year gross (with just a little hustle)?
4. A Plan: Do you need ten years to qualify?
5. CGN: Can you bid in and out like any other base, or are there special requirements? Base lock?
6. Scheduling flexibility? Good, bad, indifferent? PBS?
7. Worth it at my age?

Thanks!

1. LAX=Senior now. OAK=Junior, maybe as a new hire.
2. $100k
3. $200k
4. Vested at 5 years. Possibly getting out of the traditional A plan, we'll see.
5. There is a minimum commitment, don't remember the length, with a maximum of 4.5 years.
6. Depends, can be good depending on manning. Seniority helps a lot.
7. That is best left to you.

Hope this helps. Others may paint a brighter or gloomier picture, but I think this is realistic.

I would say LAX is top heavy. Very senior at the top but very junior on the bottom 20%. They sent one or two new hires there on the last bid before this last one came out. And this one has a few vacancies for new hires. Although they will probably wait until they train out most of rhe MD guys before they send any new hires there, like they did on the last bid. And the next bid may not come out for another 18+ months. But you should be able to get it on the next bid after you get hired if it goes like the last two.

5) CGN commitment is minimum of 2 years, but it takes longer than that to actually be able to bid out. Max time in CGN in one go is 4 years 11 months. Because we don't have frequent system bids like almost everywhere else, and also because you get certain benefits associated with accepting a position in CGN, bidding "in and out" is not possible. Bids can be over a year apart. But you can bid it again once you have served time in another base to reset the 5 year clock.
6) Usually excellent schedule flexibility compared to pax airlines, but not so much during Covid since we are crazy busy. Line bidding, but our secondary line bidding is effectively a sh!tty PBS system.

Are the new 767-300 being delivered updated with a full glass cockpits? Or are they like the original 80s version with steam gages and screens ?

They're LDS (Large Display Screens). All glass.

According to the training letter a single LAX MD11 FO slot will be awarded to a new hire in April. Potentially in the next NH class.

An LA new hire, how long has it been since that happened?

On the last bid, 20-01. I think the last one was in December.
