I realize variations of this question have been asked, but looking for some fresh answers. Do you feel like you are able to adequately manage your circadian rhythm as a FedEx Pilot? Meaning, do you consistently stay on a single time zone sleep schedule (for the most part), regardless of where you are in the world or are you consistently changing your sleep cycle from month to month? I've spoken with a few folks about this and there seems to be a variation of answers and approaches. Do you feel like your sleep cycle and overall health are a major factor (negatively impacted) working for FedEx and the pay and QOL offset that issue or is it a manageable issue that you feel is overblown by outside chatter? Thanks for your insights.

For some reason I don’t trust our voting system. That’s just me, the union seems to always barely pull off their choice. They know Tony would have been a spoiler to their little party. They’re going to use this as another way to say most pilots are in favor of the pancake plan.
Congrats Paula, I do hope you represent US!!!!! And don’t follow the union with that BS plan

I don’t really get the “stay in home time zone” scheme - unless it’s a quick trip, ie 2 legs with one 24 hour layover. Even then, staying on your home time zone means keeping some really weird hours, when businesses aren’t open to serve you the drinks or food you might want.
My method is to adapt to local time and enjoy myself wherever I go. If I have goals in mind for a layover - a particular museum or a walk somewhere - it makes it easier to get up and go. When I’m sipping a beer or wine at a sidewalk cafe it makes it pretty worthwhile. I find I sleep just fine doing this and the adjustment on the backend is that much easier. Ultimately, your body wants to be awake when it’s light out and asleep when it’s not. The more you can adapt to that, I think, the better. Speaking only from the multi-time zone mode of flying, not am hub turns. Those just suck and you deal with the suck the best you can. Avoiding them altogether is a nice method once you can do so!

A friend who has family in Germany is hoping to get on with us. Ultimately would try to get CGN or 75 MEM and commute on us.
What is the likelihood of him being stuck on the 11 ANC as a new hire with zero digit last four of ssn? That would be a dealbreaker as the ANC-CGN commute would be a killer.

It depends on how this next system bid turns out. If there are a lot of vacancies in ANC then they’ll need to fill those slots. There’s no % on the likelihood right now as no one knows the out come of the bid yet nor when they would actually start to fill in the vacancies.

I can choose to stay an FO for QOL and fly all daytime trips, live in base, etc. or upgrade, fly mostly nights and commute. I can fly the 777FO international trips or pm O&Bs on the 76 having every day at home and only flying days. The ability to make those lifestyle choices is one of the best things about working at FedEx

it also depends on your priorities. I haven’t flown a night schedule in over a year…I’ve definitely flown the majority of my trips daytime since coming here. I’m relatively juniorish (>50% seniority company wide) in the company. I can hold CA…
