Growth is not always a good thing which is why UPS’s CEO instituted “Better Not Bigger” model.
The devil is in the details.
FEDEX EXPRESS
PACKAGE VOLUMES: (3 Month Trend)
While there are some increases, look at the decreases:
US Deferred -4%
Total US Package -1%
International Economy -2%
International Domestic -19%
TOTAL AVERAGE DAILY PACKAGES -6%
TOTAL FREIGHT: (3 Month Trend)
Average Daily Freight Pounds:
US -9%
International Economy -4%
International Airfreight -23%
TOTAL AVERAGE DAILY FREIGHT POUNDS -3%
FedEx Express is down 6% in packages and 3% in freight pounds over the past 3-months. The 6-month trends are similar. They increased revenues on moving less by raising prices.
FedEx Ground segment saw a 25% reduction of Economy Freight. FedEx Freight segment continues to be the shining star for the corporation and is killing it.
Yes, the sky isn’t falling but the yields are down once again. That is the problem. Our growth!and dominance isn’t solving the falling yields. Why?
Amazon now shipping more packages in the USA than FedEx or UPS. Amazon is now shipping for other websites and companies — even ones that are competitors. They’ve opened up their super hub in CVG.
They have freight software programs written specifically to optimize empty space (on planes and their LTL trucks) and to sell the open space to offset their Webpage shipping costs. They also have AWS on the balance sheet to allow them to undercut everyone in logistics or their other businesses. Amazon is targeting FedEx/UPS customers specifically showing customers how Amazon can ship for less. And while FedEx/UPS have stringent pickup and delivery times, Amazon is flexing to the needs of the customer. This is a gigantic problem.
FedEx this week announced an expanded sort facility in Miami. From pictures I’ve seen it looks like the same old manual sorts with big conveyer belts requiring lots of workers. Meanwhile everything Amazon builds is state of the art.
I just don’t see how you compete against Amazon unless they’re broken up and they can’t use their very profitable AWS to undercut every other industry they get into.
Go on, bring the hate. I know many will shoot the messenger.
The devil is in the details.

HAHA CLASSIC!!! I was saying this when he was spewing all his BS a couple years ago. He is a known troll. Constantly complaining. One of the hateful 8 or 12 angry men. He constantly criticizes everyone and has never added any positive perspective. He is a joy to live with I am sure.

I think FedEx is a great place to be at but the post from PurpleToolBox is rooted in reality. I can track all my food orders and see how far out they are located. Amazon is doing that with its package delivery and we are not. When my food orders or Amazon packages are delivered the driver takes a photo to show me the condition and location in which it was left. The market demands that FedEx update its services to include real time tracking of all delivery vehicles. Maybe FedEx is working behind the scenes on this, I haven’t heard about it. The IT issues we experience sometimes daily show that FedEx is behind in keeping up with technology required to operate efficiently in todays world.
I see a bright future ahead for FedEx but the apps and websites are rooted in decades old computer and software technology and desperately in need of updating to not be left behind.
I haven’t used a traditional taxi service in years because of Uber and Lyft offering a better service. The last time I used a yellow cab I prearranged a date and time. That time came and went. I called and spoke with the dispatcher multiple times both prior to and after the scheduled pickup time. The driver arrived 1 hour late and I missed a flight. Now ride sharing apps allow me to pay electronically and see GPS location of my vehicle. I don’t expect I’ll ever order a yellow cab again. I don’t want FedEx to share this fate.

No, I criticize you -- as many do. Heck, you've been banned by many on here.

The 12 angry men im sure blocked me. Im thankful for that. Im sure they don't like being called out for the false narrative they spew. Anyone that doesn’t share in their anti union narrative is “not a FedEx pilot”. Im sure they are management or management wannabes. Or just arm chair quarterbacks. Never step up but criticizing at every opportunity. Some it appears have volunteered. They didn’t get their way every tome so now they are throwing a fit like a child. Embarrassing from a bunch of “professionals”.

Nearly every pilot I talk to about this begins with we have to give something to get something. This culture permeates throughout from top to bottom and it is why we've lost in the past and will continue to lose in the future.
You want to know how you win in a negotiation? understanding your value and having no fear of loss. Too many of you guys are afraid they're gonna take something from you. I couldn't care less. You gonna take this great job from me in this enviroment??!!! You gonna offer a red letter??? When every company is starved for talent and unprecedented retirements are about to begin. Please bring on the red letters. I'm happy to use it as toilet paper and hand it straight back to you.
You see that's the problem I've listened to so many of you guys rail about vaccines and what you'd do if the company mandates one and how you'd walk away.. Well would you walk away if they proposed contract terms that were unacceptable? If they took your pension? I don't know about you but that was a MAJOR selling point about this job and every alternative offered beyond improving it is a concession full stop.
Most of you are too busy attempting to rationalize THEIR position aka Kronan. Or flying draft to line your pockets and "help out, while having a concessionary mindset. Our union leadership believes this too. I'm not gonna spend time responding to posts arguing about this when it's simple and plain.
It's pathetic and sad.
If you aint ready to deal with a long protracted negotiation you are helping us lose. If you are willing to give this for that you're helping us lose. If you're selling back vacation you're helping us lose. If your flying extra you're helping us lose. If you're so scared you're gonna lose this awesome gig that your gonna soil yourself if management sends you a word doc on colored paper you might want to evaluate your level of intestinal fortitude.
