Pretty sure everyone is desperate. But the frequency of these "don't worry, we'll come to you" interview/open houses is telling. Just pull up the recruiting Facebook page.

And people wonder why the upgrade time here is long...can't upgrade without FOs to fill the spots. A lot of posts on here scare potential new hires. It's not a bad place to work as far as work rules are concerne . Especially compared to other regionals. No one gets paid what they deserve at any regional (save for PSA and the like since they voted to set back pilot pay a couple decades) The more new hires we get the better off everyone will be, including the new hires.

Just remember ExpressJet need you more than you need them. They may be interviewing you, but you're also interviewing ExpressJet. I'd come to the table and ask the tough questions. (possible future flying, Company Shrinkage, Skywest relationship, attrition numbers, stability of contracts with mainline partners, signing bonus, etc)

Of course, recruiters aren't paid to tell the truth. They're paid to get butts in the seats. So, no guarantee anything he/she says will be truthful.

Be cautious and good luck!
You're correct on the paragraph that ExpressJet needs pilots, but to the guy interviewing do not go in there telling them what your demands are. I know many of the ATL recruiters and they had to turn a person down because he/she mentioned in the interview "you need me and I want this". Maybe he/she didn't say those words exactly, but if one is demanding like that in an interview no telling what he/she would be like on property.

Pretty much all our ATL recruiters are FO's and are on the low wage of pay as well. They want pay to be much better - it would make their job much easier in attracting applicants. Their hands are tied. They can only tell you what pay is under our current JCBA.

I fault ALPA as well as management for pay being so low. The last TA we had hardly improved first year pay and would have made reserve even worse. The senior guys negotiating though ensured they received their increase while not ensuring first year was substantial.

I've been here over a decade and have been on reserve a long time. They other poster is correct about we have better work rules than other regionals. I'm not saying they are Rosey and amazing, but they are better than several other places. I just hope for all coming into this profession in the near future have a better pay to look forward to soon. We are all professionals flying jets in and out of major hubs like the mainline partners, but at a fraction of the pay.

Good luck to anyone interviewing. As mentioned bring some questions to ask. An interview is really a two way street. I don't ever try to tell someone they need to come here, but I tell them my experiences and why XJT has worked for me. Ultimately weigh the pros and cons and see if what we offer may work or be in line with what you desire.

Good luck!

Anyone who is a regional FO or even a CA at a regional that is a "recruiter" is only using that position to apply that to their resume. Don't pay them any attention.

All great advice!

Hoping I have a successful interview: I am hoping for an ATL base because I have family there. What are the chances and which CRJ would that include? Can I choose CRJ over ERJ? If i can choose CRJ, can I choose which CRJ? I could not find any benefits online, what might these include? These are the question I have and would ask during the interview. So far....

Thanks for all the recommendations!

You must be a lifer here.

If you want to be a lifer here, then yes, this company is probably a good choice for the long term. HOWEVER, if you want to be at a regional for the LEAST time possible to move on to a major, then I would suggest looking elsewhere. This airline is stagnant. It has a pretty good contract considering, and we refuse to vote in anything worse, which is good for the long term. So if you're old or looking for a career regional, then yes, come here!!!

And exactly how did PSA "set back pilot pay a couple decades"? Our 12 year CA pay when you adjust it for the 7/900s coming in our blended rate is only a few dollars less that our old 18 year CA pay. A few bucks for growth and several other improvements is hardly industry destroying. And people aren't coming to ExpressJet because WHY would they? You simply don't have much to offer a new (or an experienced) person in this industry. Long upgrade. Long time on reserve. The point isn't to make the regionals a home, or a "great place to work". The point is to get in and get out. I know the lost decade changed some pilots views on that, but the purpose of the regionals has remained the same regardless. Get in, get out. And apparently your fellow pilots don't agree with you either. We have had dozens of ExpressJet guys/gals in our classes. I guess they are just "bringing the industry down" by looking out for themselves and trying to better their position in this career. Or maybe 3 years on reserve got old.

Volunteering at the homeless shelter will get you more attention.
