That's really the mentality I've taken. Of course being at the bottom of the seniority list means being back on reserve with min days off again and thus seeing your kids even less. But eventually it pays off, hopefully.

So I guess as FO's we were immune to all of that. Everything that you mentioned there has had an effect on everyone's lives not just professionally but personally so I would "Save IT"..

And he's a contract negotiator.
Aren't you glad to see your seniority group is well represented in the contract negotiations.. "Woe is me!! The rest of you stuck on an 8 year payscale slinging gear can SAVE IT!"

No, it's more like for those of us who got into this industry pre-9/11, the rules keep changing. Just when we think we have a chance of advancement, the bar gets raised or moved.
I'm sorry, but we aren't a bunch of entitlement generation hipsters who got everything handed to us. I'm an experienced pilot, a darn good one, with a 20 year spotless flying record, and a 4 year degree from a major university. That SHOULD be enough. Excuse us if we feel like chasing job fairs (which UAL is now saying gives you no extra points) shouldn't be necessary.
And the regional lifer comments are really getting old. About as old as the whining from the right seats about lack of upgrade. My generation didn't choose 9/11. We didn't choose the 2003-2004 recession and layoffs. We didn't choose age 65. We didn't choose the crash of 2008. Now we have to hear smart mouthed 20 and 30 somethings lecture us about our networking skills and demean us for enjoying captaining a 76 seat jet for over $100k a year while they get hired at the jobs we've been applying to for 10 years? Save it.

Come on fellas, let's keep it civil. Those who want to move on will and those who want to stay will stay.

Honest question, Tony. The majority of the lifers at XJT are pulling over $100k a year. How will this kind of payroll affect the long term competitive nature of our company say in 5-20 years? Should a 45 year old pilot at ASA count on another 20 years of viability before retirement? Folks (including myself) are having to make that decision right now and I'm curious what you'd predict ASA will look like in 5-20 years.
Thanks

You're really worried that underpaid regional pilots make too much?? Really??? Every single regional is having staffing issues because management has been able to lower pay and benefits so much that this career has become impossible to justify for new entrants.
