Even with airframes leaving, will there be a need to hire in 2015?

To be honest, I sincerely doubt if mgmt., knows what will happen next week, much less next year. They were going all out hiring and in a matter of days it stopped (in May I think). I guess they could start hiring again with a few days notice. I guess the answer to your question is "nothing surprises me around here anymore".

'CRJ Training Manager Wilbur ‘Ed’ Hays was flying when Ronald Reagan was elected president. He was flying when he learned of the Challenger disaster. In fact, Ed heard many historic events through a company radio in flight.' via Expressjet website.
I think Expressjet forgot to mention that Ed like the rest of us were flying when;
Santa Claus came, and the Easter Bunny came by and when our country celebrated it's birthday as well as the day we all give thanks to our founding fathers... Don't forget the birth of children, anniversaries and birthdays. We ALL have flown through them all at some point in our career.
This is not intended to discredit Ed or his commitment but to remind the company all of us have and continue to sacrifice.

.........but have you been doing that for 30 years?
Not I, not yet. I'll take my credit when that time arrives.

Beech90:
As I'm sure you know, the regional business has changed. When United announced 100 50 seat RJs were not going to be renewed in 2015, all hiring stopped. The company doesn't know (can't predict the future) on how those a/c leaving will affect staffing. Yet.
When I was last talking with Sheehan (#2 guy in the company) he was saying the days of 10 year flying contracts are gone. Now it is more like two years. If we can extend flying for 3 years out, that is the new "long term contract". The reason: when costs went up, our revenue was locked in. Therefore, our margins shrunk. So, the majors and XJT want shorter terms to better manage revenue.
What does that mean for hiring? Slow trickle (unfortunately). The best thing will be the majors hiring out those who want to and are ready to move on. Many folks aren't ready (finances or logbook or preparation). Many folks are ready. Movement is starting to happen. There is a renewed optimism that our industry hasn't seen in at least 13 years.
Sorry, no magic pill. Just do your best, network, and treat this job like it is your retirement job. Be the example of a professional.
All the best.

It is very likely that both sides will need to hire by the end of next year. The industry is changing, as is the company, but there are apparently some opportunities on the horizon which, if they come to fruition, will change the outlook for both sides. Our ERJ side has some of the strongest numbers for United Express carries, which positions us well for extending contracts at favorable rates. The CRJ operations are improving with rumors of 12 aircraft to replace the 12 we are losing. Additionally, our attrition is pretty high right now. You won't really know until it happens, but if you want to come here, you will probably have an opportunity soon.

You guys are sad. Just get out of the stupid regional world already! It's a place where dreams go to die. Look at yourselves bickering about petty differences between ASA and XJT. News flash, they both suck!! I hope they both go out of business soon. They are like an old dog that needs to be put down.
I haven't posted on here in a LONG time, just been reading. But in all honesty, who the hell are you to talk down to people like this? Do you have a clue how many of us have our stuff in at other places, and are just waiting for the call? The major airlines in this country haven't hired IN YEARS! And right now, the HUGE majority of people getting calls are former mil guys and gals with more than one internal rec. You must be a real peach to fly with. It's guys like you is why I don't have my app in at one specific major. People spend the majority of their life at work, and I don't want to work with a bunch of Richards.
Funny how when a lot of guys who spent some serious time at the regionals, get hired by a parent company, all of the sudden look down at them. Don't forget where you came from. And don't forget who helped you get that "Performance" bonus. Regionals do half of your lift. You couldn't survive like you currently do without us. Your pilots are "to good" to fly RJ's. I mean, after all, your contract has an RJ pay scale in it, and you own the airplanes. You just refuse to fly them, because "It's to many legs in a day."
Edit to add: Debated on whether to click [Submit Reply], but I really don't care if I catch flak for this. If you're not at a regional airline, why the hell are you participating in a regional discussion?
