What's the Latest at ASA/Expressjet?

Thank you for proving my point. I have read and studied Sun Tzu. Everything you've said is completely irrelevant to what is happening at XJT at the majors. Who is the enemy. What will are you breaking? What is the battlefield? I've read and studied Sun Tzu. It does not apply to airline anything.
Try a different translation, took me 5 or 6 to get the gist.

You read it, maybe even studied it, but you didn't understand it. Sorry you wasted your time. Its a treatise on conflict, the military is just one possible application, it applies to every potential conflict/competition.

Just because I disagree with your theory doesn't mean I don't understand. I promise that I am more than qualified to make these arguments.

I very much understand it. I just don't think it applies to labor or business relations at XJT. Perhaps applying it loosely to Southwest moving into Denver or Delta in Seattle. Again, you've done a good job of parroting what he said but have failed to correlate other than my saying there is one.
In other news, just because I disagree with your theory doesn't mean I don't understand. I promise that I am more than qualified to make these arguments.

Below is a quick excerpt from a book on Sun Tzu, would any of these apply to the airline business?
(1) Capture your market without destroying it or its profitability.
(2) Attack competitors where and when they least expect it and are most vulnerable.
(3) Make the best use of market information to develop advantages.
(4) Move faster than your competitor to create maximum confusion and delay in response.
(5) Pick strategies that will encourage your competitors to respond in ways favorable to you.
(6) Emphasize leadership built upon good character.

She's more than qualified to carry out whatever United tells her to do.

How many books have been written on how Sun Tzu applies to business/management? Also, I don't think ClickClickBoom is talking about labor vs. management (he/she said asked "what would happen if airline "A" decided to take airline "B"s market share?") so in the scenario it would be United vs. Delta.

The enemy attacks, we retreat.
The enemy camps, we harass.
The enemy retreats, we attack.

Another puppet whose strings will be pulled by the BOD and mainline management. Big changes are coming, there is no doubt about it. Look at the large changes that ASA went through went Holt came on board. ATRs went away, got 900s, united flying, american flying.

I think the "capture market share" idea is interesting. But really, where are the grounded flights going to be? The regionals, because those are the pilots who will be leaving by the hundreds soon. Solutions? Do those flights on mainline equipment, or find a way to keep the regionals staffed to do it. Or a workable combination of both. Or buy a supply of pilots, do away with scope problems, and end the FFD system on your terms, not terms dictated by the regional vendor's soon to be very serious pilot staffing issues.
I have no idea what the real solution will look like. Seems like every regional is still a place to leave as soon as possible, with some fairly limited retention/flow programs at DAL and AA. All the majors seem to be content to play the regional pilot steal/swap game. So it's difficult to see why would one player move to change that game in some way. Streamlined training? Reduced downtime of pilot supply?
