Like I said already, if you are a commuter, it's a bigger issue than those that aren't. The fact is that we are not required to call or click on a link at some crew room computer. If we are now required to do that, even from your own device, it's one more responsibility that has been shifted to you that was not there before. Canceling flights because we have no check in has never been an issue so why should we concede that instead if eliminating it for those who are required to do so?

You guys have far bigger fish to fry than bickering over checking in.

Our show time is one hour before departure time. We are not required to have mobile phones, computers, or any devices. So if they want to change our schedule, they either get a crew tracker or Cheif pilot to notify us in person or more than likely, you don't see your name on the release. Which at that point you are required to contact scheduling. It's been this way for almost 10
years with no detriment to completion factor.
What airlines specifically? Even so, if we don't do it any it's been working for almost ten years, why would we want to required that for the other 2/3 of our pilots? This is but one small QOL concession among many other huge ones that one side is ok to have the other take. When it should be the other way around!

Checking in is NOT a QOL issue. You say it hurts commuters. It says you have to be there 1 hour prior departure for a report time. If you're planning a commuting flight that will get you there with less than 1 hour prior to departure, then that's your fault for gaming the system.

I seriously can't believe people are getting worked up over the check in system. There are definitely more things to hammer out in our joint contract than this but feel free to carry on as children.

Do you see the issue there? You want it all, but yet on the same hand you don't want anything. If you're not required to have a cell phone, how does the company know that they will be notified of an issue? They do that by having the option to login through ANY electronic device or computer, which includes the gate computer, or through the crew room. I see nothing wrong with that at all.
So because it works, why change it? Why change the turbojet engine to a turbofan? Why change the light bulb, when it works? Obviously your pay check works for you, since you still work for the company, so why change that? You ask for raises, but why when it works for you guys right now?

I said we are not required to have a cell phone, not that we don't have cell phones. It is for our convenience, not the other way around. Otherwise they would have to pay for it. If someone doesn't get a hold of scheduling through the company provided 800 number and just doesn't show up, I expect him/her to be fired for job abandonment. How do you think people did this before cell phones?
As a commuter, it can be the difference between commuting a day before or the day off. If I have to be at the crew room computer one hour prior, that can be as much as 30 minutes extra you need to give yourself and many times that means commuting a day early only because you have to walk to and from the crew room.
As for pay and raises, I'm not planning on working here forever. And I'm actively working on changing pay for the better. Meaning more compensation and better QOL. Changing it to require me to check in is like changing my turbofan to turbojet. Do you see the difference? No check in, just as turbofans, work and has worked. So why do you want us to go from our turbofan to your turbojet?
I'll concede this one thing. This is not a big issue but if they want me to check in, they will have to pay for it in other areas of the contract. This is true in almost every section of the contract. They want me to give something up, they have to give me something in return that is better. No concessions and One List or nothing!

Notice it's the same people who get worked up? Ironically, it's the same people who have the most time off....yet they spend it on a lousy internet forum trying to see who's wood is bigger.

I'm making the point that while this is small, the ERJ guys are making this into a big deal.
FAR from the most time off.
