I highly doubt they self-insure their aircraft. Usually when a company says they are self-insured, they are talking about health plans.

They have "corporate liability" insurance. Most planes that get hit by tugs, Or run into jet bridges ect.., are not covered.. They part them out or eat the cost.

No, those 21 airplanes are E135 aircraft that have been parked in the desert for years now. The 9 E135s in service still are on contract with XJT until this fall. There has been no decision on whether to extend or terminate those aircraft.
