Inc is "self insured"
I highly doubt they self-insure their aircraft. Usually when a company says they are self-insured, they are talking about health plans.

They have "corporate liability" insurance. Most planes that get hit by tugs, Or run into jet bridges ect.., are not covered.. They part them out or eat the cost.

I was scheduled to take this one out. Mechanic rumors are running rampant but the check airman simply stated they scraped the wing. From his statements, there is a possibility of wind shear (stated winds at the time were 320@6G18) but it didn't feel squirrelly when we landed just before them. Several mechanics that day said it's totaled because the wing cracked in addition to the scraped tip and flaps. From the terminal the damage wasn't obvious and I didn't feel the need to gawk more closely.

No, I understand. I'm sure they have a very high deductible that won't cover any kind of ground damage. Plus, the guilty party ends up eating those repair costs. But they are definitely still ensured. And I'm not just talking about liability.

No, those 21 airplanes are E135 aircraft that have been parked in the desert for years now. The 9 E135s in service still are on contract with XJT until this fall. There has been no decision on whether to extend or terminate those aircraft.
