Guys hired at these regionals are highly likely to upgrade years before you while you're enjoying driving to work on 7th year FO pay. PSA's junior Capt next July has yet to be hired. It's simple math.

Yeah.... Everyone should join the race to the bottom!

So join the race to 8 years in the right seat?

I gotta disagree. When I got hired in 2006, upgrade was less than 2 years. It took 6. I guess you could be one of those guys who goes to a new regional every 2 years when your promised upgrade doesn't materialize. And start over at first year pay several times. And lose longevity, 401k contributions, etc. That ends up costing more than a lot of people realize. Moral of the story: whoever has the short upgrade today may not tomorrow and vice versa.

This is of course true, and is not necessarily bad advice.

But, why not at least take a shot at the quick upgrade at mesa, psa, or compass? At least there's a chance it will work out. Going to XJT, or pinnacle, eagle, or the almighty skywest is GUARANTEEING a long stay in the right seat.

The answer is always no if you don't ask.

Trip and I have went over this before and still doesn't make any sense to me that a person who believes that "PSA's junior Captain next July has yet to be hired" is not willing to take that leap of faith. The other aspect is that you are advocating people to go to PSA. I understand Compass but PSA, c'mon man.

We all know this is a crapshoot, things could do a total 180 in this industry as a whole or at a specific airline. Make the best informed decision based on the resources available to you and what will work for you and your family.

Because making 40k or less for the next 8 years is not sustainable with student loans/kids/mortgage/desire to not live paycheck to paycheck.

Some FOs may be squeaking through but you can't sit there and tell me 121 PIC is not going to give you a leg up.

The "resources" say that Mesa, Compass, and PSA will have the most movement or fastest upgrade time. Could this change? Yes. But right now the "best informed decision" would be to go to one of those places, yes?

c'mon man.

I am sure you are right, but somebody is flying the MRJ.

Also, I keep hearing everyone say go chase the upgrade, but if that was really the most successful route how come everyone who was ever on the Great lakes, Silver airways, Seaborne, Colgan payroll isn’t dominating the mainline new hire classes. I feel like these options only apply to current mainline employees children, and everyone else is a sucker for following them. Am I really to believe if PSA hired me today I would be a captain in 16 months , get 1000 Tpic within the following 12 and be at a mainline hew hire class in just over 2 years from now? That sounds like absolutely ridiculous advice. Pilots have been preaching that tune since 9/11 and it has really hasn’t ever worked for anyone other than the children of the industry.

Don't you work for PSA? If so, I see your concern when I mentioned PSA. The best informed decision is not only based on upgrade. You should also weigh the contract, base, etc. So yeah, c'mon man.

It doesn't concern me in the least. Our classes have been full.

The topic was movement and upgrades. Not contract. I have also made it fully known that I don't believe our contract is all that bad minus the pay caps(which a new hire will most likely never see.
