You only need to look at the airline industry to see that most people will go out of their way to save 50 cents.
Add 50 cents to price, the Big Mac becomes more expensive than the Whopper, people stop buying the Big Mac in favor of the Whopper, McDonalds lay off workers who then get hired at Burger King at year one pay and end up earning less than they did at McDonalds.
Sound familiar?

Except that Whoppers taste like crap and bk's fries suck. All of the major airlines' crappy services are indistinguishable.

Good for them. Is it too much for someone to expect to earn a livable wage for working a full time job.
It's funny...a high school drop out working at mcd and bk sees more value in themselves than a college degreed, professionally trained airline pilot.

I would say that what's pathetic is that we are bound by a law written 87 years ago that doesn't allow us to band together and stop the management from doing this. They, along with the federal arbitrators, have us by the balls. I would like to see the federal arbitrators go to arbitration/mediation to have their pay cut down 40-60%.

Given how many years it takes to rebuild credit, I'm surprised more people don't think like this though, no one wants to just dump responsibilities, but at some point you've got to draw the line with working conditions and compensation. The allure of the "just gotta spend a year or two at the regional and then it's right to the major cuz there'll be a pilot shortage (airline surplus)" is just too tempting...
You are not bound by an 87 year old law, how do you think unions got started in the first place? People died for ideals they believed in strongly enough in other realms like civil rights, etc. Not saying that is necessary, but it's something to think about...
It's a vicious cycle for sure.
