We have gojets and pinnacle with next to zero leverage to get a decent contract. Even if they did have a good contract they still have a significant advantage from having such a relatively young pilot group seniority wise. That's not even mentioning that they have long lines of eager beaver flight instructors willing to do anything to gain their "1000 hrs pic" so they are competitive when the pilot shortage hits.
Despite the chest thumping on this forum the legacy asa guys and legacy xjt guys aren't that far apart in what we want out of this contract. We want a fair contract that allows some semblance of being respected as a regional airline pilot. We are the largest regional in the world and have the potential to save 40+ million a year in the merger and possibly more if we harmonize our fleet or merge with skywest. We can still be competitive but right now we are being torn apart by vocal minorities on each side with their own agendas. We have an intelligent management team but they are also playing a game with their own agenda that no one can quite figure out right now.

I agree completely, +1
As to the contract, I guess my rep was a little off when I talked to him almost two months ago and he said to expect a TA "in May or at least by the end of June". Which is fine, I'm in no hurry. I have lots of sections I'm not willing to compromise on and I'd have even more if I was a fJXT guy.

I think the company should just buy a *******load of beer/liquor and we can hammer out this contract in one long barfight.

Having been in a bar fight I would highly recommend against that. It was nice to check it off the bucket list but thing quickly escalated into kick the crap out of the Americans......oh the memories......haha

Not hiring right now, zero, and probably atleast 1000 due to the new ATP law.

No one really knows what's going on with hiring right now. I think from a staffing perspective we seem to be OK. I haven't seen 200% up a lot this Summer. I know last Summer it was almost an every day thing.
You're gonna hear rumors both ways, but nobody knows for sure. I think the people who are in the know would be ones who have recently spoke to recruiters or have recently interviewed. I'm interested to hear what those people can tell us.
One interesting thing though is the fact that the company seems to be legitimately concerned about where to get people once attrition and subsequent hiring really starts to pick up (the only reason we hired so much in 2011 is because we were severely short staffed). There was an internal memo sent out stating that the number of applicants who either met or would meet the ATP requirements by Aug 2013 dropped to 0 (that's right - zero) months ago.
Unless the company announces new flying or growth, I'm expecting us to pretty much stay where we're at right now as far as staffing. Maybe some trickle hiring here and there for attrition, but not much. Regardless of what the doom and gloomers think, I'm ok with where Expressjet is right now. Save SkyWest, I don't think there are any other regionals out there that are in a more favorable financial situation.
