Solution: call scheduling and make them read you the open time. That's about the only way things will change. It's really isn't a big deal to me. It's one month every couple years unless you like to change airplanes every bid.

I've learned that about 10% of what you read on these online forums is good info, the other 90% is bunk. I guess this "Friday position notice" unfortunately fell into the latter. Oh well... Just wish the hiring would finally spool up so we could watch the ensuing meltdown that occurs when management's staffing plans go up in smoke due to attrition. And hopefully, I'll hear about it while in new hire training at either United, Delta or American, not while being raped as scheduling goes into panic mode!

The rumor of a vacancy bid is correct according to CT and the women who's head of crew something or other. I asked while they were in our lounge the other day. As for when, they said soon but no set date as their trying to see where they want the vacancies. It's suppose to be "small with few upgrades but nothing like we saw on last vacancy."
Take it for what it's worth and don't get excited as is everything at this company, it's not worth jumping up and down for.

I have a lot of good sources and I have heard nothing about a position notice this week. But that said, good news usually comes out Monday or Tuesday morning. Only bad news comes out at 4:30 on Friday (for the reasons mentioned earlier).

The reserves available in Atlanta have been tied up on a pretty consistant basis, on the Captain side of things. We're losing a fair number of pilots, and I see little being done to keep up with attrition. Thus far, I'm hearing of record flying for the summer, being done with a historically low number of pilots. This is going to be a blood bath. At least for them. On the up side of things, we might get another "doesn't matter how we got here" email to feast on for a while. Maybe we'll finally get to see Old Man Tutt have a mental melt down.

The people who melt down are the pilot groups. We simply don't understand that how management can be so stupid running it so lean and crushing us and our personal relationships. I personally believe that extensions are always optional. A couple of summers ago I didn't accept a couple. I told them I would gladly accept my suspension because my girlfriend would really like me to have a weekend off. Nothing ever happened as a result. It's all a game to management. They stretch the contract to the best of their abilities, they stretch the pilot groups and work against us because they can. This is how it will always be at asa/xjt. It's all about costs. The risks involved in running a lean group are acceptable to them. It doesn't bother them when occasionally they misfire because in the end the number crunchers think it will work. Trying to convince them otherwise it futile.

Trying to understand whats going on here. Is Express Jet not hiring to keep up with attrition? Are they running classes?
