What's the Latest at ASA/Expressjet?
#1801
For those not on the other site, here's a post with decent rumots:
Latest rumor comes from a source in Delta's finance & accounting department--reliability unknown. Both Pinnacle and GoJets are in major financial trouble. Their financial plans were based on low-ball bids to begin with, but performance penalties have whittled their compensation down to unsustainable levels. Pinnacle's bankruptcy judge will not approve their plan to gut contracts, which he sees as financially unrealistic. Both Pinnacle and Gojets are probably unviable long term. The reason Delta sunk the $77 million or whatever into DIP financing for 9E had nothing to do with love or even whipsaw--Delta would have been fined by the DOT if service had been cut on so many routes at once (not to mention their own revenue losses they would have encountered). They just needed Pinnacle to survive short term for Delta's own financial well-being.
Supposedly ExpressJet will see 23 new 900s next year. American Eagle flying has a very good chance of massive expansion. Combining SkyWest and ASA may happen, but legacy Expressjet may be left swinging in the breeze. Supposedly their contract expectations are unreasonable, and the pilot group's militancy makes it a difficult cultural fit with the other two groups. They may very well be "Comairized," as "this isn't 1999 anymore."
I have no idea if any of this is credible--just passing it along.

I'm not saying I believe everything, but I will say that it's not unrealistic. Delta's meeting is tomorrow and the 900's homes may be announced. I think Pinnacle is in a tough spot and as for GoJets, well you can only run at a loss for so long. If this were to actually happen, it would take time. Tomorrow, if announced, will be a piece of the puzzle.
I'm a firm believer L-Express is up for some hard times.

Trip you are a well educated guy and since you were quoting someone else's post, why would you leave that last paragraph in there? If you took a couple of minutes to re-read that you could see why people would have a problem with it.

Also, I'm hearing the exact opposite from a friend in management. Apparently the company is getting tired of the sideshow the ASA MEC puts on with negotiations. They view them as unprofessional and immature. But carry on with your flame bait.

The first part of what I quoted I could see happening...As far as the second, well, yeah, that's just hilarious to me.
Inc: "Hey, let's buy XJT, merge them with ASA, then after we spend all that time and money merging them, we'll dump XJT because "they don't fit into our culture", and then scrap EVERYTHING we've worked for to spend more money and time to merge ASA and SkyWest and do the WHOLE thing over again. This will be a good idea, because it makes complete financial and business sense."
Hey Trip, rewind to about a year ago. Who was hiring and upgrading like crazy when the other side was offering COLAs, losing flying and talking about furloughs?
My point: We're all going to be FINE.
*Punches self in face for even responding to such a dumb statement.

I love these ASA guys who hit up various message boards to spread rumors of our demise because we won't "get on board" with a horrible contract. It's funny how ASA guys, when I meet them in person, are very nice and want a good overall contract. Nothing like the trolls you see on here or the Crackpipe.

I did think about cutting the L-XJT part, but decided not to. Because I'm too lazy to type nearly the same response again, here is my response to that part:
Good info. Sounds like XJT will get 23 900s and Skywest 17. Looks like SKYW 's plan to survive then thrive is being executed flawlessly.
The only info that sounds shaky is the L-XJT stuff. As I understand it all both sides are demanding is no concessions, and that PBS system is the only real issue left. I also heard the company was the one that slowed negotiations because it wanted to see results/effects of the Eagle and PNCL bankruptcy TAs
