I can't help but laugh at you L-ASA types who think the ILIW is some encumbrance on our lives. It's 24 hours once a month and it's not something you HAVE to do. It's just the time you have the OPTION of improving your schedule. And it's not even really 24 hours out of your life; if anything awesome is gonna happen, it happens in the first few minutes of the window opening. Now, if you got what you wanted from the bid (like all the senior, PBS-loving CRJ-types claim) then who cares about the line IMPROVEMENT window? You have nothing to improve on, right? So quit whining, congratulate yourself on how awesomely senior you are, go to the bar and have a beer without having to feel awkward when you don't buy the first round. Sheesh!
Let me get this straight. To really get what you want (or to have the most choices in the ILIW) you have to be ready to pounce when it opens? So what about the folks that are flying, or away from a computer during that time. They just get the scraps? Sounds like an awesome system to me.

If you take the pedestrian approach, then yes. However, if there is something you really really need in the ILIW you...wait for it...IMPROVE YOUR LINE...the month leading up to the next ILIW, through trip trades and/or drops to get the ILIW off. It's like any other event in your life: if it is THAT important to you, you get it off. On top of that, the company usually schedules it late enough that there are very few conflicts (usually it opens at 2200-2300).

But no, you're right: having the OPPORTUNITY to improve your schedule is a way worse system than getting stuck with crap and having no open time to trade with

That's because the LXJT folks don't respect seniority the same way we do on the LASA side. If we had the same system here, we would have the LIW's based on seniority....Not who is fastest on the keyboard at 12:01.

Doesn't really matter as there won't be a new CBA without PBS....Whether that is sooner or later is totally up to the LXJT side.

It's better to get what you want the first time around...and then base any open time on SENIORITY bidding....not a free for all window...

Respect seniority!? What are you on about?! We LINE BID which is the truest respect for seniority there is! First guy gets his choice, then the next guy and so on. What about that doesn't respect seniority!? PBS rewards those can think most like a programmer. How does that honor seniority?

If sooner means a concessionary contract with PBS and later means no PBS and keeping my current contract longer (also concessionary but still better than what I hear about management is kicking around) ...then later please.

Ahem...you get what you want first time around with line bidding...if your SENIORITY allows it. What is hard about this guys!?

And explain how that would work!? You sit down and make a schedule and give each guy a five-minute crack at open time based on seniority order? Sounds more ludicrous than the ILIW if you ask me.

I can pick up remaining open time or other people's advertised trips. Some of these advertised trips offer extra money. If red flag is up, I have the free time to pick some of that up too.

There's no way with my low seniority I could ever hold something this nice with PBS. Would it be nice to get a line I wanted without having to do a dance on the computer? Absolutely. But the ILIW is why all levels of seniority have some flexibility to make their lives so much better.
20 days off at 60 credit! What an awesome schedule! Yippie for you! This summer I was holding schedules with 18 days off and 88 credit.

Sorry but the whole concept of run to the computer improvement window for a 24 hour period where only the first "1-15 minutes" is important is BEYOND ridiculous.

Our PBS is seniority driven. First guy builds his own line with all the trips that are in the bid package. Second guy builds his with the trips that are left over after the first guy bids...and so on down the line.

It's really not difficult to learn the system, however I can see how it might test your skill level....

It will be later then...and the growth will most likely be with CRJ aircraft...

Ahem..you get your first choice of what the company built the first time around...I get what I want the first time around, not my first choice of pre built lines. I used to get my first choice of lines during line bidding, and I would much rather get my first choice of trips. Comes in especially handy during holiday months.

This Thanksgiving, I did better than I ever did with line bidding. I was able to build a week off around Thanksgiving. One of two weeks off during the month. That would have never happened with line bidding.

Really? Our initial open time has ALWAYS been seniority based. It's really quite simple. You have 12 hour windows during open time where requests are honored based on SENIORITY. Foreign concept I understand....but that's how we roll on the LASA side....

You're comparing your summer schedule (peak flying) to his winter schedule? I don't think that's a valid comparison.
