I assume you mean preferential interview with skywest not a mainline right? haha...but if we don't have future now with our contract and we vote no then nothing changes. Management seems to think if we get this done then there is stuff down the line for us so why not give it a chance and take some benefits while we wait and see?

I think the same thing, what do we have to lose? The company can keep the status quo, while we try to hold out for significant gains. Or we can get a little something now and make this place more attractable.

What do we have to lose? As long as there is NOTHING concessionary in there, I don't see the harm in getting something small than nothing at all.

I wouldn't put too much into what management seems to think. They have been saying for years we can't get anything new because we don't have a new contract and they can't give an accurate bid without one. Meanwhile other companies that were in negotiations have had no problems bidding on things and getting them. I do agree it would be better to get a little gain and wait it out but how long are you willing to wait? I have decided to see it to the end, maybe I'll be able to get out to an LCC or not, maybe we will actually make a comeback. Who knows

The difference is that ExpressJet has an internal competitor in SkyWest Airlines. When they say that they can't secure new flying without a contract, what they mean is that SkyWest Inc won't allocate new flying to ExpressJet while they have a stable, cheaper alternative.

Well we are never going to be the cheaper alternative right? From a business standpoint, why give us any flying anymore?

I like this place and I like the people I fly with but it doesn't change the fact that we are shrinking with no game plan. I am interested to see what comes out of the talks this week with the company.
For the record, I am not planning to be a lifer here, although I know it could happen. I am also well prepared in the event this company closes. Considering the fact that we have close to 10,000 aviation professionals working here, 'burn it down' seems asinine at best. We can make this a better place while we are here. If you are miserable here, you will be miserable at Southwest, Delta, United, FedEx, etc....

But management says they are not whipsawing us against Skywest! And like it's been said, for us to be as "cost competitive" as Skywest, we will have to take HUGE concessions when everyone else is getting better contracts. Anyway, if management wants to prove that we are not going to be pitted against Skywest, then they should have no problem distributing ALL flying proportionately between the three pilot groups. After all, if we really are banished to fly mostly on the eastern side of the country, there is way more flights in that part of the country anyway. But who am I kidding? This company, inc management, prides themselves in their business model that puts their own employees against each other (instead of working on the same team) just so that they can put more money in their trust funds.

This would be a good time for the union to come out with an email on the status of what they have. One strange thing about this place is the fact everything takes years to accomplish. It's run like the government.
