Probation is a one year period, correct. But the probation ride is a real thing and is why they try to schedule your first recurrent about 10-11 months from DOH. That way you do not have union protection yet and they can axe you if you don't have a pretty good record. That's why a good HI10, good probation reports and of course a successful first recurrent checkride is important. They take all of those into account. If you bust your ride but a clean HI10 and good probation reports, chances are they would love to keep you on. But if you bust your ride, got a MA with a couple sick calls on your HI10, and some reports from captains saying that you lack professionalism, it doesn't look too promising for you. And since you're less than a year in, the company is free to fire you. Once you hit a year, it becomes quite a bit more difficult.

Not necessarily, half of my new hire class this was true and they went back 6 months after their type ride. The other half, we had a probie ride and oral at the school house at 1 year from DOH and then had recurrent 1 year from date of type ride. 3 checking events in 12 months.

Probation Ride
Since this topic was discussed a few posts back, I have a couple of questions since I'm coming up on mine. Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect? Will it be a full MV and LOE? Will the SV be from the same question bank as the first SV we took? I'm just trying to narrow down what all to focus my studies on. I'm on the 175, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Prepare like it's the full thing, then be pleasantly surprised when it's not. It's easy, but I think the check airmen are pretty good at judging if you studied or not. If you do, they'll make it a breeze. If you don't, I think it might be a different story.

SV will encompass Memory Items, Limitations, FM-1 ( spend time in chap 3 and 6), AML and MEL procedures and the systems covered in recurrent ground (about 1/2 of the total systems)
The MV is an condensed version of the one you took during initial.
Day one of sim, MV
Day two, SV (45min) LOE (2 hrs) RAD (2 Hrs)
Hope this helps
