Question for elogsite users. When filling out your paper logbook when do you round up or down? Since the system only logs in actual time and not in tenths. For example if I have a leg that was 1:27 should I log it as 1.4 or 1.5? When 27 divided by 6 it's 4.5... sooo round up to 1.5 or not because technically if there were a Hobbs meter like other GA AC I've flown it won't tick over until it would actually reach the next tenth? Hopefully this makes sense of what I am asking. Thanks in advance!

I use both eLogsite and LogTen Pro as well. I log Hours:Minutes on my electronic, It’s more accurate. When eLog showing 1:27 I type 1+27 on my electronic. Sounds silly but I had to catch up so I purchased eLog. Really easy.
When I had converted Paper logbook to LogTen I did not have to worry about that.

“once a vacancy bid is awarded and final, an FO who reaches 950 hours and desires to invoke his rights under the standing vacancy bid can volunteer for any vacant and unfilled captain slots left over from the vacancy. The standing vacancy will remain open until the next vacancy is posted.”
So correct me if I’m wrong. Since I’m at 830 hours, they will assign me flying while I’m on reserve to get to 950 hours. Then at that point since I don’t want to elect for an open vacancy, I will still be an FO until I get displaced on the next vacancy bid? Or are they going to start displacing people as soon as they get their time?
Also I don’t know who Sam was talking too but there is not one FO I talked to that wanted to fly more to get their hours and upgrade, he shouldn’t have even put that b.s. sentence in his letter. /rant

If you don’t want to participate in a Standing Vacancy (SV) period then DELETE any preference bid (3P on saber) that you have. Use 3* to view your bids.
If you want to participate during Standing Vacancy(SV) period then add and keep your preference bid updated at or by 950hrs (since it’s First come First Served.
Standing Vacancy (SV) is the period between Vacancy/Displacement bids, which has been announced and occurring every Quarter (3 months) but could change anytime.
The info is on the bullet-point (top of Pg.2))

Side note: if you’re not trying to upgrade and get your PIC then you’re being terribly short sighted. Barring any change to the 65 rule hiring at all airlines will accelerate in the next 5-10 years. Getting in early is always better than waiting on the flow and if you’re cooling your heels as a regional FO you don’t know much about this industry. If you asked the senior FO at Pan Am about their prospects in 1980 they’d have a different answer than in 1992.

You’re in a bubble. There’s a very vocal minority of non-upgraders but it is not representative of the entire group. It’s pretty simple the number of FOs hiding on reserve is very small compared to the overall group. You don’t even really have to talk to anyone, you can figure it out: Total # of FOs on reserve/Total FOs which also assumes (falsely) that all FOs on reserve wouldn’t want to upgrade E.G. 47 E175 FOs on reserve out of 179 is 26%. Further corrected for those that don’t have high seniority #s and the % gets smaller. Assuming that anyone not bidding reserve and progressing toward their mins is at least OK with upgrading when they hit their hours, kind of like not voting you’re tacitly approving the result by inaction, then on could conclude that a majority of FOs want to (or are not actively opposed to) upgrade. The available data doesn’t match your conclusion or anecdotal support. I’m guessing the union guys probably talked to folks too.

You (and the union then) are using the wrong numbers and people to make these claims. With the exception of the occasional individual that bids a reserve line for a specific day or days off that they couldn’t get through a regular line, IF YOU COULD HOLD A LINE AND BID RESERVE ITS BECAUSE YOU’RE TRYING NOT TO FLY. Those are the people that are likely close to the upgrade and are trying to get some more seniority before they do so. If you are on reserve because you can’t hold a line, then it’s because you don’t have the seniority and with few exceptions aren’t even close to an upgrade and are still not going to get the additional flying assigned.
