Envoy
Hi guys,
Got offers from PSA, Envoy, Air Wisconsin and Republic. My priorities are:
1. Fly as many hours as possible
2. Base (Florida preferably)
3. Upgrading
Quality of life is for a later time...
I'm still not grasping how the whole scheduling works (pbs, sap etc.) except that seniority is what rules it.
Constructive criticism is welcome.
Thanks.

What I have observed here at envoy..
1. We have to many FOs right now, so flying a lot may not be as simple as it sounds.
2. FL base eliminates PSA and Air Whsikey.. Envoy and RAH have MIA base.
3. Upgrading... Envoy is desperate for captains. RAH has more Lifers, so upgrading may be more difficult (especially in MiA)
Envoy is so desperate, they are upgrading guys who have not even been awarded a captain slot. (New hires who meet the requirements in training have been put through the captain syllabus, not sure how they plan to integrate them...
Is Endeavor an option?? You won’t get FL base, but a far superior airline from what it sounds like.
Do you have a degree?

Thanks for your reply. Endeavor was my first choice but they are too busy right now. I'm sure I can do well in the interview but that's still weeks away not mention they don't have any training dates til July and I can't wait that long. AW is pretty out of the picture right now. PSA and Envoy are attractive cause of being owned by AA but I hope I don't have to wait 6 years to move onto a major. I have BS and MS in Engineering so that helps me a little. Again QoL can wait, but I hope to fly as much as possible.
I'm totally new to this. So it's a bit overwhelming catching up with how schedules work. I rather spend time studying for my ATP, Indoc, Systems etc. but wanna avoid as many landmines as possible by the time I sit on that right seat.

The degrees help outside of the flow, say going to another major but won’t help you in the flow, as it is seniority based.
Speaking of flow, six years is a pipe dream even by the most conservative standards. Plan on 8+, anything less being a blessing.
As for the amount of flying, it depends on a ton of factors but my first year I did like 350-400 hours. With training, reserve etc it doesn’t add up to much. Could you get more, sure but that’s what I ended up with. However after that year I have been getting 70-80 a month straight line hours so it’s better.

Good info but man I don't know. It's a little depressing hearing the reality of all this. Don't get me wrong. I feel privileged entering this industry even at 43 and I get the term "pay my dues" and all. I can take the $hitty crash pads, the killer commuting, time away from my kids, low wages etc. but I was hoping I could make up for it if I can get as many hours as possible. I also understand there are no perfect jobs but I keep reading more negative than positive stuff from all this. Oh well, it is what it is. Sounds like Ron Jeremy's lap is waiting for me on that right seat...

Do you live in Florida? Silver Airways is the only other show in town as far as Florida bases go. I would imagine they are probably hurting pretty bad for pilots so you would probably fly a lot. I have no idea what their pay, qol, etc is like though these days.

Yeah but they only do turbo-prop. I mean FL is a preference not a requirement. So lets's say I'm willing to give in on the base, between PSA, Envoy, AW or Republic, which one would keep me on the air the most?

Hi guys,
Got offers from PSA, Envoy, Air Wisconsin and Republic. My priorities are:
1. Fly as many hours as possible
2. Base (Florida preferably)
3. Upgrading
Quality of life is for a later time...
I'm still not grasping how the whole scheduling works (pbs, sap etc.) except that seniority is what rules it.
Constructive criticism is welcome.
Thanks.

You may think quality of life can wait. Kids grow up fast while you’re not around. If you are making reasonable money, unless it is just killing you, keep your day job and keep flying as a hobby.

If you want a better perspective, you should ask the same question on the forums for all the airlines you are considering.

A few related questions:
1. Is it true a few NH’s within 50hrs just shy of 121 qualifying time for CA upgrade have been awarded CA, forced upgrade, displaced to CA in the last vacancy.
2. Is this voluntary option for NH ? Like by discussing it with HR, management, or the School House. Could Line FO’s make a request on a case by case basis or a discussion with the CP? Is ALPA screening these awards and validating the times or is it a Pre-Programing in the vacancy bid process in SABER?
3. Is it possible for HVA or Line pilot to get awarded in the next vacancy (if in March) when just short of the time by like 1-50hrs?
4. I hear it’s a contract violation, but is anyone filing any grievances? Or reporting this to ALPA
I’ve heard of a few other regional airline management doing this with CA awards when a FO is pretty close and able to have FAR 121 qualifying time before completing the Fed ride.
5. I’m amazed if this is happening, if it is a clear violation. If the rumors are true, could this be interpreted by the company as company discretion?
