I didn’t count, but if there was one guy who didn’t get displaced (this time) does that mean they had enough fodder to fill all the seats they needed? If so, sounds like (someone in) the company did a very calculated analysis and knew just how many openings to put out. From what little I know this company that doesn’t sound like Envoy, so did the company really get that lucky with the numbers?
The top guy displaced could have flowed already and has passed. I wonder this will change his mind.

In this brave new world of forced upgrades and street captains the wheel is going to need to get reinvented. The current methodology is unsustainable. We simply can't hire or train fast enough to maintain the required supply of captains. Whether it be remote basing with dead heads on either end, a huge bump in compensation or some other idea. The company and the union need to put their heads together and get very creative.
Have an idea share it.

I know they can’t just change the requirements but if they negotiate something with the union like higher pay they will get guys to upgrade. They’re already giving new hires up to 40k, just give the current pilots that to upgrade.

Make guys have to upgrade in order to flow. Problem solved. I wasn’t here when they thought out this flow but I can’t believe nobody foresaw whats happening now. There’s no incentive to upgrade if you’re flowing.

We are past this. We are officially out of qualified FOs to even incentivize. We will have to hire street captains for the next year at least. Every 4months or so when they come out with a vacancy, we will probably have 30 to 50 guys tops, that will have reached there 1000hours 121, however these recent vacancy’s for captain have been consistently over 100 captain slots...this last one I think was around 150 captain vacancies. They need to do more than just give out a one time bonus to get guys to want to come here and sit reserve for 2+ years.

Do you think money will be enough? Are there even enough pilots out there? How long til we run out?
What about opening up a remote base that serves the NYC an hour flight away with dead heads on the end of both sides of the trip? It could be somewhere a lot more affordable. Would that attract people? Or is a vast majority of people looking to commute permanently and base selection is irrelevant.

But for now, I think you are correct. Unless they hire guys with the time already, there will probably only be another 30-50 pilots organic to Envoy that will meet the requirements to upgrade if there is another bid in three months.
