Is the $22,100 signing bonus and/or $20,000 retention bonus going away in 2018?

The company can continue to offer whatever signing bonus they like, that's done outside of the CBA. Retention bonuses are negotiated under the CBA and have to be agreed upon between ALPA and the company. Therefore, both parties would have to agree to extend the retention bonuses into 2018 and beyond. At this point, I don't believe there has been any official word as to whether or not the retention bonuses will continue. In my opinion, ALPA shouldn't, and I don't believe they would, agree to more retention bonuses. That just enables the company to slap on compensation bandaids and not enact any permanent pay raises.

I don't have the time right now to reread the LOA. However I think it was worded that after the deadline the company at its discretion can continue the LOA and at anytime stop it.

I just took a look and couldn't find anything along those lines in either FO Retention LOA.

The recent MEC news blast addressed this. After Dec. 2018 the company would need to provide 30 days notice of discontinuing the retention bonuses. So a pilot hired today has absolutely no assurance that they will receive any retention bonuses whatever. If a recruiter tells you otherwise, try to get it in writing.

Once you are hired under the LOA you are grand fathered in until you receive all your bonuses or upgrade or become ineligible.

You may be right, I don't know. But that is not the unions understanding.

I had always wondered this but the latest email from the union said once you are eligible for the 8payouts you will complete the payouts.

It still a bit vague on if someone is grandfathered in after probation ends or from the first day of indoc.
