Nothing wrong with the "pilot" bags but I've never had a time where I wished I had one vs my cheap one.
As a counterpoint, I had a Travelpro when I started and it practically exploded: the wheels broke, the handles broke, everything broke in less than 2 years. Had my luggageworks for 8+ years now, have only replaced the wheels when they get worn, and had to tighten a screw once. In fairness I do put it through a lot of abuse.

The problem with the cheaper ones is that they will break at some point. They are less expensive, so you can just buy another one. This sounds like a good plan.

A great plan, right up to the point that you are on day 2 of a 4 day trip and your bag breaks. Have you ever seen a pilot carrying their bag through the terminal because the handle has broken completely off? I haven't. But I have seen many passengers and flight attendants carrying their bags because their handles have broken off of cheaper bags.

If you are going to be a professional pilot, get a professional bag.

I also started out with Travelpro. Started falling apart before long. Had it repaired once or twice before getting fed up and dropping the money for a Luggagworks. That bag has been solid for over 5 years now. Worth every penny.

Wasn't Envoy advertising they could give you your choice of base? Not saying it's true, just what I heard.

If you bid the 145 you will probably have your chioce of base either while still in training or very shortly after IOE.

The Costco bags are great. My wife and kids use them to travel. I'm looking at them alongside my LW professional bag and can see the differences. The LW is heavier duty. With the size of some of these bonuses, the LW should already be shipped on its way to your house from the AA store. P.S. shipping it is cheaper than paying sales tax.

How do you get wheels replaced on the LW?

I would suggest strongbags.com. Very good bags. Made with the best materials and not to heavy.

5.1 billion in pre tax profits at 5% mean 255,000,000 in bonuses being paid out. I know my slice is pretty small but that is a lot of bonus money getting paid out.
