Your IOE instructors didn't cover anything about reserve? Man, I'm sorry. Read the sections of the contract that deal with reserve. There's a lot to cover, but basically you will use the HI31 command in DECS to put in a proffer (preference) for what you want to do on your next day of reserve. After 5 pm CST you will call the crew scheduling 800 number and use the automated system to confirm your assignment. Ask any captain you fly with, they would be happy to go into depth on how the whole thing works.

Has anyone ever had trouble taking their laptops into Mexico? I've heard stories and I know what FM 1 says. Sitting standby at the airport with a computer makes time pass a bit quicker but don't want to take the chance of a flight into Mexico if customs would give me a hard time for having one.

Happened to me also... got the call at midnight and called back later said I had a PG... My response was "But it's my first day, idk anything!" The scheduler laughed and removed it.
