I'm 31 and got the 175 in a class of 32 people. 12 175's offered, I picked 15th. Just happened to work out in my favor that day. But yes, from what I have seen so far, average age FO on the 175 is probably 45-50ish.

I never wanted it. I honestly wanted the CRJ so that I could get the bigger bonus, and then a displacement. I was disappointed when I got the ERJ, but now I couldn't be happier because I am sitting pretty in by base and the commute isn't bad. The extra $5,000 paid off the last of my debt, so I am content. When upgrade time comes I will probably stay on the ERJ. Why spend another two months getting another type rating that doesn't really matter if I intend on flowing?

I think bidding the 175 was a no brainer for a while due to quick seniorty and getting DFW. I wouldn't say nicer plane because the 145 is pretty much as automated minus auto throttles, plus probably more fun to fly. But anyways, now that the 175 deliveries are winding down being at the bottom of that 175 list with no movement on reserve I'm sure it won't go as senior. You can get DFW on the 145 now too relatively quickly.

No, the 175 is far more automated in addition to the A/Ts. Yes, the 145 is more fun to fly, and it honestly requires a more skilled pilot. The 175 requires virtually no skill to land compared to the 145. But bottom line putting all that aside, bidding what gives you the best QOL and more money in your pocket is absolutely the way to go. The pay rates are the same for all the equipment at Envoy. Not to mention you get a smaller bonus to fly the 175. But unfortunately there are many in this industry like E175 Driver that suffer from SJS so badly that they would sacrifice pay and QOL to have the honor of flying the 175. He lucked out and got in at a time where he actually got better QOL by getting the 175. But he's on record saying that he'd rather quit and go somewhere else if he got displaced out of the 175. And it's people like that who are a big part of the problem in this industry. The 175 list is about to stagnate big time compared to what it's been doing. You're going to see better movement now on the 145. But nevertheless, if you had a big new hire class and told people that if you choose the 175 you'd be stuck on rsv for 2 years, get a bonus check that was $5k smaller or go to the 145 in the same base, hold a line in 3 months, and get $5k more there would be no shortage of senior guys still choosing the 175. I guess some guys just think it's worth any cost to be able post cool pics of "heavy" metal on their Facebook and Instagram.
