My technique is putting in the bottom for each fix in the altitude preselector, and bottom+1000 in the FMS. If I nail the VS - the plane will not level out at each fix. Putting a target VS of 2000FPM seems to allow you to slow the aircraft with thrust alone, and leaving the VS as is.

What? Just set the bottoms, watch the altimeter and the plate while you descend. Look at VTO when your G.S. changes significantly. I know the 175 is childproof but anyone who did 1500 hrs with a student should be bored by this in normal conditions.
When it’s continuous moderate so you can’t hold onto the knobs on the FGC and American comes blasting up at you doing 6000 FPM and chases you off with an RA but ATC still wants you to make all the restrictions that’s different though. Thx Boston.
And don’t let anyone convince you to wait until 2500 FPM or something to start down. That sucks and is both unsafe and uncomfortable.

I’m scared of getting tarred with the “scrubby regional pilot” brush. Plan ahead a little bit and save your pax ears imo. But like I said, it’s just technique.
You can Sarajevo approach the 145 down to sustained -7500 FPM with the right combination of weight and drag without exceeding any limitations, and I’ve seen it done in the sim. It’ll just make me, many of the passengers, and the TCAS uncomfortable. But yeah I guess I haven’t been flying the 145 very long.

2500 fpm is ideal in this jet imo. The arrivals seem to like 1500 fpm it seems. But saying 2500 fpm is unsafe is a bit... extreme? Just my opinion. There's literally a million ways to do the arrivals with the 140. I set up my way on my side no matter who's flying. If the other guy is flying and is doing something that makes me think he'll bust a limitation, I say something. Otherwise, it's his ship.
