Possibly. If you get called for a trip or stby at JFK during rush hour, it’d be tough to make it in 3 hours. I lived outside of Brewster, NY and on occasion it would take over 2 hours to get to JFK.

Do you happen to know if I drove to LGA whether I would fall under the commuter hotel policies or not? Do I actually have to fly somewhere to be offered commuter benefits?

It looks like from my research they offer unlimited hotel stays for NYC commuters for 90 days? I'm not clear if I would qualify for this if I drive into my base.

Understand that the reserve time would last over 5 times that long, but it could at least help offset the initial cost...

Thanks again for entertaining my amateur questions!
I'd find a friend or place 1/2 way or 2/3rds of the way LGA to go hang at when on short call. Many of us in the Boston area used to go hang at KBOS since with a 3 hour callout we could get to either LGA or JFK as needed. Stop just short of wherever the tolls start to get NY ridiculous.
The odds are you will get called in for airport standby or a flight anyway; they are well known to absolutely hate leaving anybody at home paid all day. They'll break up trips into several turns, just to give two guys turns and one an overnight rather than leave two guys home.

My advice is to ignore anything this guy posts. I don't know why he is in this forum as he doesn't work here. He's just a troll that posts 100% negative things about Envoy. He probably hates it because he's not at American but just got furloughed from some crappy operator that flew 145s.

My advice is to avoid everything this cr700 guy posts. He is known managment. Cujo is a wealth of valuable information and has been through the worst that Envoy/Eagle has to offer. While not working here anymore he still offers valuable insight and perspective.

Copy! Plan for the worst, hope for the best!

Seems like a better option than commuting to another domicile I think?

Thanks!

Living in Connecticut and considering LGA for my base--I'm currently just South of Hartford and wondering if it's realistic to assume I can stand 3 hour reserve from my home here?

Google maps shows about a 2 hour and change drive to the employee parking lot, but I know traffic can push this close to 3 hours during rush hour (https://goo.gl/maps/7LVRcBroKKLFEDzw8).

Am I being naive to assume that I can stand reserve from my home or is this reasonable?

Will there be an issue if there's a catastrophic accident on the Merritt that pushes me over 3 hours or is there a tolerance for these things? Sir, no excuse, sir, or **** happens?

Thanks!
Did you do any sort of research before you signed up and joined this company?

Sorry, I don’t mean to be the negative guy, I’d really like to be positive, but man it’s hard to have any compassion.

I’m 99.999% sure you’re going to come here and say “I’ve been duped” like I hear from some of the rotor guys and probi’s on property.

Best of luck anyways.

Several complaints are the length of time it takes to get through and the poor quality of the training.

Consider other options for getting your ratings. If you are using terminal leave or retiring, you still have income. But getting your ratings locally and remaining employed can have advantages as well.

Search for rotor transmission forums.

https://m.facebook.com/rotarytoairlinegroup/

There are others as well.
