So is ORD relatively easy to get these days?
I live in Atlanta but have family in Chicago (which means no need for a crash-pad) so that's why I'm asking. I did a search on here but was not sure so apologize if this has been covered recently.

They have been doing vacancy bids once a quarter fairly consistently pre and post covid. They usually offer all FO basses in the vacancy allowing everyone who is on property to shuffle around. So you should be able to get back to ORD between three and six months from day one of indoc.
The growth is in Miami and DFW so ord is just a little more stagnant, meaning it might take you longer to get there.
The union also offers a Mutual inter domicile transfer where you are paired up with another FO that wants to swap bases but it has a bunch of caveats and isn't a total slam dunk.

Then why Envoy? There is NOTHING about ANY regional that makes it worth commuting from a base for another regional that you live at.

Assuming he wants to stay in Atlanta, I'd assume he wants to work at Delta. Currently, it seems best to avoid the regionals that feed your preferred destination airline which is going to mean commuting.

That being said, in two years, (or less) this hiring wave will be subsiding. I don’t think it will be an issue, especially for those just now getting hired at the regional level. Moving to a LCC/ULLC ASAP as opposed to staying at a regional will probably be more advantageous move anyway.

No new planes until late in the year (only 3 new 175s) and one additional 170 already on property that should be on line during summer.
Any physical movement of planes from one base to the other is pretty transparent. The only thing one really sees is the number of lines in a given base.
There are no displacements OFF of any aircraft. There are likely to be some displacements from FO to CA, but that is not specifically related to which airframe, it will solely be based on who has the lowest seniority with eligible hours when the bid is run.
Without an actual displacement, upgrades could come from either plane and any base. Overall management of what is actually reduced won’t be known until the bid is run either as the company can choose to backfill vacancies or not as they happen during the bid.

Overall, the vacancy indicates where the company THINKS they need people, nothing else. All flying is at the whim of AAG and can change from what was projected. There is certainly no additional flying, as it can’t be staffed. It’s only a shift of where AAG wants flights from and even then, with current through flying, other than origination and termination of a usually four day sequence, it may not be from the original base anyway.
