I do happen to agree that it wouldn’t serve them well right now but my point still holds true.
100% agree. The only thing that it would immediately help with is transition coverage.

Transition issues are mgt driven by the manner they plan schedules. There was a time where the trip going into next month only had on leg, back to hub, this reduced transition issues by 60 percent.
Mgt make the problem and it's up to the pilots to fix it, no sorry, PBS is nothing more than a mgt tool, not pilot friendly. Just ask the american pilots.

So why are the lines built with so much monthly carryover now? What changed?

Don't select transition when bidding and just take the time off. DC's aren't paid anyway, so most of the time you just have a BS overnight added that pays 3-4 hours. Pick up a few OT trips to make up the difference for much less work.

Im glad you bring this up. I emailed the union about transition and they said to select transition every time because I would have to fly it anyway the difference was gettin paid for any conflicts or not. That I would end up flying the rest of the awarded trip for the next month regardless so might as well select yes.

If it’s up to me, they can drop the entire trip for the new month that touches the one for the previous month, but they tell me that’s not the case even if I select “No” on transition.

All that selecting transition does is allow crew scheduling to make you legal between your last trip of one month and the first trip of the new month. What often happens is they drop a turn or an overnight right in the middle to give you the needed rest and weekly hour requirements. These dropped trips are paid in this case.

If you dont select it, the conflict is simply dropped away on either side and you dont get paid. If you live in base, this is what I would do 100% of the time and like the poster above mentioned, just pick up an OT turn somewhere to make up the lost pay.

However, if you commute the transition option is nice because you get paid, get a hotel and save yourself an extra commute. The choice is yours at the end of the day. I would add though, being gone from home that many days is rough in my opinion. It takes more time to adjust once back home and if you have a family, you would be surprised at how long those extra days feel.

More like 12 days off for reserve here at Republic. Deadheads for days just to fly one leg or sit out of base reserve at a dump outstation base.

What if say there is a conflict, crew scheduling drops the last overnight of your first four day trip but then you decide to trip trade the four day trip in next months schedule that was causing the conflict to where it wouldn’t cause a conflict anymore. Will CS return your overnight, and if they don’t are you still pay protected?

You will not be allowed to trade. Conflict is beginning of month, then ttot not available until at least first day of the new month, plus trot will not trade into a conflict and manual ttot will not be approved.
But you knew that because you were not lazy to read up on it.
