Default Commute to LGA from BOS?

Any folks here have a LGA base and commute from BOS? I know the flights are plentiful but I've heard demand is high. I'm a new hire RTP guy looking at my options and would be curious to see if anyone else does this, and how challenging it is in actual practice.

I have heard people that live in Boston sit at home on reserve and then make the commute to LGA.

Other than that I have no helpful information.

But I received an HI6 saying that a reserve pilot has to be in his/her base.

Exactly.

OP NavyRotorhead , don’t cut your 121 career short, or get stacks of paperwork on your file (write-ups) based on what old timers and lifers who bid the top of the CA reserve list have been doing. You sometimes getting away with, but that one time you get caught u will get called into the CPO.

Also company issues you an Ipad. They know your location. It’s the main reason MESA says they don’t issue IPads, and reimburse its pilots.

Envoy is different. You’ll likely be on probation as a CA on the bottom of the RSV list at LGA being called in often, or siting Airport Standby for a while.

If the story I heard for the background behind that HI6 is corrent, that pilot was begging to get caught with his pants down and bungled the whole deal once the pieces started moving too.

Meh. I’ll get a crash pad till I can hold a line. I just figured LGA would be the easiest commute from BOS.

BOS-ORD might better. Cost of living, and QOL on the long run. Escaping the east coast during weather in BOS trying to get to LGA or weather in LGA trying to get to BOS could be a pain due to proximity. You could get socked in. Just a thought.

I know of CA’s that commute/commuted to ORD after BOS & also LGA base closures & continued being ORD based after LGA re-opening. Both CRJ & E145 CA’s. Others on here have been based in LGA and BOS (when it was a base) or spoken to CA’s who did it, they could shed better light.

Is that so? Even with hourly flights between BOS and LGA? And worst case scenario it’s a little over a 3 1/2 hour drive.

BOS-LGA would be such an easier commute over commuting across another timezone to ORD. Plus you can fly into JFK/EWR if push really came to shove.
