Predictions on next vacancy/displacement bid?

Let me turn this around....Would you want to put your family on a plane out of Chicago in the winter with a captain who’s total airline experience goes back a year and half and an FO that just started last week? That’s where we are heading in the next few months and many are worried about the outcome. It takes several years of experience to gain the resourcefulness of a safe captain. Better to rely on a bucket full of experience than a cup full of luck. Know one in the company likes where this is heading (except management) including some check airmen that I have spoken with.
There’s a lot more to respond to but I’ll let it go at that.

Heaven forbid someone defers an upgrade for quality of life reasons. It's not like that happens everywhere else. There's a reason Delta has what a year upgrade to LGA but still has 14 year FOs. But your right it's just entitlement by those millennials, you know the 50 year old Delta FOs. Hope you get to enjoy a commute to LGA reserve so you can prove how unentitled you are.

Experience is good but you can’t get it second hand. That’s why we train.

There IS a lot to learn about operating in the 121 world. Some will be ready for it, some will not. The more right seat time you have in the operation, the better prepared you will be. No matter what, you will still see and experience things never seen before when you get to the left seat. As long as we are prudent and safe while figuring a few things out along the way, let it ride. However, some will not succeed and that is the nature of the game

I guarantee if we had endeavor or better rates that suddenly all these 800-950 hour FO's would all be claiming they're ready to upgrade. Not belittling them at all, I can't blame them, why increase responsibility with peanuts increase in pay? I agree.... but if the company were to raise payrates, they might find themselves out of this predicament they're in. But glad to see they didn't head this problem off before the summer schedules.

So these check airman must suck at their jobs then right? There are check and balances. What you’re really saying is that our training, check airman, and standards are poor. BTW the same standards that you, mighty captain gate keeper of the skies, had to pass too. You chicken littles act like these guys walk in off the street and into the left seat having never flown before. It’s preposterous.

This “you must be a joy to fly with on the line” **** is getting old. We operate in an industry that involves heavy machinery moving at insane speeds. Never forget that. Schedules, pay, bases means nothing if you’re dead. When guys lay the law down about doing things right or cracking the whip, it is a function of needing to do things to comply with laws of physics or regulatory burdens. Either way, I want it done right in my cockpit so I can get home to see the wife and kids and so I don’t have to dance in front of the Chief Pilot or Feds. I paid alot for my certificates and don’t want to lose them and the ability to generate income from them. I do everything I can to be pleasant and fun to fly with but make no mistake, we will always strive for perfection in my cockpit. I guarantee I will never achieve it but will ALWAYS strive to do it right!

I flew with someone that put in zero crosswind correction. We landed in the right half of the runway. 30 degree crosswind blowing 17-24. They had 3 seconds to put it down or I was calling for a go around. I was appalled this was happening in the 121 world. So yes they do fall through the cracks.

We have already seen an uptick in new captains making mistakes due to inexperience. Please don’t take my word for it, talk to the guys on the safety council. The FAA is also concerned about the rapid decline in experience at the regional level and wants closer scrutiny over standards. But your not concerned.... kick the tires, light the fires and clear the wires, right! Lol
