And yet they still hired some of the biggest d-bags to fly with that we had. So much for that vaunted selection process...

I think it's several factors. First, the program was sold to the pilots as if it were basically what PSA and American have. Walk in, shake hands, tell them you want the job, and get your class date. Instead we got the full Delta interview experience except for the shrink on day 2. Second (largely because of the first part) pilots showed up unprepared, because they expected the advertised handshake and a job. Third, Delta has unprecedented access to the pilot record files of Endeavor pilots. As part of the deal they got access to all training records, attendance records, and discipline records. That is a lot more than they get to look at from anyone off the street, and in my opinion, regardless of what Arnie K. says, they have already determined that several pilots won't be hired no matter how well the interview day goes. They are doing those interviews because they have to go through the motions. Fourth, they can't afford to hire a high percentage because there is nobody to replace outgoing pilots in great numbers. They need to keep Endeavor staffed during this process. Hiring 85-95% would drain this place too quickly to keep it viable in their minds. Fifth, They heavily prefer military to civilian, and most Endeavor pilots trying to leave have no military experience. Sixth, it's Delta, it's their culture... enough said.
As far as military over civilian, maybe if they were military pilots, but I can tell you the majority of the folks I know who were ex-military (non-flying) have been turned down. Of the 9/12 that got hired when I interviewed, one guy that got turned down had many years in the military, was still active too, the other guy that was turned down- I have no idea. The 9 of us that we're hired had 0 military experience. Myth busted
Your third point about having access to our files, I believe is a very good point. I'd bet the majority of SSP pilots would much rather do a physiological evaluation, then have their personnel file torn apart by Delta.

Any pilot using the excuse "this was sold as just a handshake" is so full of s&$t! After the first SSP interviews were conducted in October 2013, everybody knew this was NOT a handshake. The first officer pass rate has been very good, the current captain pass rate has not been very good. I think myfingershurt hit it right on the head, attitude, and preparation will get you a job. But to still use that lame excuse about how this was sold almost 2 years ago??? Weak.

You know, Endeavor sounds like a great place with some good future mobility. Unfortunately, with where I am right now and considering it would place a financial (and scheduling) hardship on my family, I am going to have to decline their offer. I hate to burn a bridge like that, but I don't have much of a choice. Good luck to all you guys out there! You all do a great job!

Yes, you remember correctly. I have posted about this in the past. I am just on the fence. They invited me for the interview and I need to reply today with either a yea or nay. It's not fair to string folks along while I try to make up my mind. Of course, my six year old son is saying he does not want me to go. He likes me being home every night. I guess I should count myself Blessed in many ways!

This is too bad. Endeavor seems to be a great place to earn your stripes in the regional world. Every job offers challenges, but with the pay (~$43k first year), the career progression (guaranteed interview at Delta), and upgrade time (looking at around 2.5 years)...it's hard to say you can't "afford" to work there when other regionals can't really compete. I'm pretty tight with one of their recruiters...he can expand on any questions you have, let me know. 9E is a beautiful operation, might be in your best interest to do the interview anyway.
