Typically 5 on 2-3 off.

Are you able to group your shifts together? A friend at PSA said when he was on reserve he could group them together to somehow manage 8-10 days off in a row. The commute from Oregon is going to be a killer, hoping for more than 1 day with my family between shifts.

Yeah, you can bid for up to 6 on and load your schedule in one part of the month. I'd do 6 on-2off 6 on then maybe 4/5 off while on reserve.

Ok. Thanks, that sounds a little better. I've been in the 135 world for 9 years, no 121 experience. I'm still trying to sort out your world so thanks for being patient with me. Reading through the forum here, looks like sitting reserve on the -200 would get me off of reserve sooner? Is it possible to request the -200 during training? Or do you take what you're given?

You bid in training, so it depends how old you are to get what you want. There's been more 900 spots going to new hires than 200 spots, but most people have been getting what they wanted. From the west coast, JFK would probably be an easier commute, and some people in my class are holding a line on JFK 200 after only 2-3 weeks of reserve. I'm guessing by the time you come through and the base is stabilized at its final size, reserve would be a little longer.

I'm hoping for 200 JFK myself. Good to hear about that. Thanks!
