Or...is your point AA is more open to the idea of a pure flow unlike Delta and United? Either way, Delta has chosen to retain more control over their selection process. I don't necessarily agree it'll stay that way. But as long as the guys in charge think there's thousands banging on or doors to get here, it certainly won't change.

My point is that American is every bit a good airline as Delta with good pilots and their hiring standards are completely different in relation to flow. I'm not sure that Delta is getting better pilots by abstaining from a flow. Makes no difference to me, I just wonder why the American culture can remain intact with a flow, but Delta feels it's a detriment?

Nearly at desired NYC captain staffing levels?
Hopefully...it would be nice to start seeing vacancies with more DTW/MSP openings again, hopefully soon.

I personally have never heard anyone close to the hiring process call a flow a "detriment" to our culture. I think, pure and simple, that Delta feels they can still control the process as hey have done for decades. I don't see this as a reflection on an overprotective measure for our culture. It will change naturally over the next 6 years with our coming retirements anyway. That's a force they can't control.

I'm curious what happened to LGA900. Seems like it has totally stagnated.

If you size up "where do I want to be" in terms of regionals, you should have an end goal in sight. Currently, if it's Delta, you likely want Endeavor. If American, sort through the WO's for your QOL. United? Well, do some research... honestly, I really can't speak to UA. It seems that DL and AA are the ones really playing the regionals because they OWN some. You want UPS or FDX, it now becomes a true reckoning of both your body clock and the credentials they are looking for (PIC, glass, intl, and any FAA certs -mainly check airman, and volunteer work- that you can throw on top). You don't know where you are until you decide where you want to be.

Personally, I had a 3-5 year plan when joining a regional. It was all figured out and lined up. The world "happened", life has "happened" and I'll be at DL in the spring. Was that my plan a decade ago? Nope. Problem? You could say I told God my plan and he laughed, you could say it was the way the world works, you can call it luck of the draw. In the end, I applied to DL in 2008 and interviewed in 2015. Was it by my "street credentials", no, it was the SSP that got me the interview and CJO. 10 years ago movement was quick, shortly thereafter it wasn't; with a recession and age 65.

For someone now joining the ranks you are looking at retirements for movement regardless of the economy. To that end you still must figure out "where do I want to be in 5 years, 10 years, retirement". Your point of "here" is misincule, figure out where you want to be and how to get there. It comes down to more than pay, its QOL, and an end state. For each person, it will be different so get out your pro-con list and do some easy math. This test will require your fingers for scoring. If you want to be at a major, DL is a good one to be at, but you still need to figure out if it's for you. If it is, Endeavor creates a path that no other carrier does. If it makes you feel better, the path is created by cost savings to DL.

Think it through.

Hopefully again soon, doubtful. Wasn't it 2 vacancies ago people were saying by the end of the year it would stabilize? Here we are with 2 vacancies in a month and a half with both over 100 NYC FO's.

Patience. Bid what you want and not what you believe you can hold.

I know...I was lucky enough to get DTW on the last vacancy and will only have commuted to NYC for 3 months, but I don't want to be on reserve there forever either. How big can NYC get? Has anybody heard any rumors about where these supposed 20 new 200's are going next year?

Right now, I'd imagine the biggest New York can get is 81 900's and 51 or so 200's. Which looks like the direction we are headed..

The XJ pilots had a flow until is was canceled. Imagine being the person one away from flow, and getting a double no in the SSP. Luckily, United picked him up immediately, he is a great guy.
