I'm an AUS/SAT commuter and I'm staying put for an upgrade.
Envoy's upgrade times are still in doubt but have a chance of improving now. But also talk to any DFW based pilot and they will tell you a story of min days off and non-commutables. Seriously 12ish flights a day between SAT/AUS each to DFW and you still can't get home with relative seniority.
You might have a better chance to get to AA as an off-the-street sooner too... Maybe.

My home is about a three hour drive from DFW. I am DTW based and have been at 9E for about 6 months. Would I be foolish to make a run at Envoy, or should I stay put. Looking for some constructive feedback, and you folks here have been in this game way longer than I have.

I think they were saying upgrades are around 3-3.5 years at Envoy. The biggest draw for me right now is the easier commute and overnights at home.
Pros:
1. The commute from AUS or SAT to DFW is much better. I could even drive if the flights look bad.
2. Envoy and AA both have DFW bases, so I may be able to keep the better commute forever.
3. If the flow is real, then the Envoy interview could be my last airline interview ever.
4. Envoy has overnights at AUS and SAT, so I can see the family at work.
5. Many of the flights from SAT to DFW are on Envoy metal.
6. I would rather be at AA in the long run over Delta based on where I currently live.
Cons:
1. I go to Envoy and miss out on 9E's replacement for the DGI.
2. Stay at 9E and upgrade to CA sooner but now have to commute to NYC from AUS or SAT.
3. Envoy can't keep hiring up and stagnates and drags out the flow.
4. I lose my seniority at 9E and have to start over.
5. Envoy goes away before I can flow.
6. I have less access to Potbelly sandwiches after I print my schedule

I personally wouldn't do it, but wish you well in whatever you choose to do. Keep us posted on the decision!

Are you unhappy at 9E? Is the company screwing you over with schedules or giving you broken equipment? If AA is indeed your dream destination, then sure, jump ship. However, other comments are correct...you're moving laterally for relatively the same cash, still commuting, and upgrade time is at least 12 months longer at Envoy. Plus, DFW is the most senior Envoy base...not to mention AA base. Would take a while to settle in there I would imagine.

For somebody who wants to continue living here it's tough to justify the commute long term (a 10-30 yr career). Nothing to do with 9E as a workplace.

NYC is miserable plan and simple the worst and most expensive base in the US period! But hey good choices on food! Plus fast upgrades is what is it is. Management is so gong hoe over it, you'll never change there minds so deal with it or roll on.

I'm not going to try and convince you to stay, but I know many NYC based guys and gals who commute from DFW. It's not a difficult commute.
If you would be happier at Envoy, then absolutely leave. You don't have to answer to anyone but your own family. Good luck.

It's all opinions. I love the NY bases, and would say that MSP is miserable and plain and simple the worst base that 9e has. Worst in the country? Doubt it, I'd imagine some place in AK would probably take that title. There are plenty of people like me who feel the same way about NY. Not everyone lives in fly over country.
